Went down yesterday morning around 10am . I had 1 guy in front of me waiting to be called to the window and 3 other guys in the room. Took over 45 minutes to be called up. By the time I finished my paper work, like outside was at least 10 deep.

Yeah, I was there about that same time.  They where moving quite slow.  Took one hour to fill out my renew rifle permit.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is there a line at HPD? I was born and raised in Kauai, but spend over half my time in Texas now where my guns and full autos snd other NFA items stay. Never bought in Kauai. Just hsve what I inherited over there. Is this part of the gun buying process? If so, that's ridiculous. Thanks.

Because there is only one location on all of Oahu to apply for and pick up permits, and to register all firearms.

During the buying frenzy, you might have planned to be in line for 4 to 8 hours.

Not anywhere near as bad now.  This is a courtesy for people needing to go there.  If the line is long and people alert the board, it might help some postpone until the line is shorter.

Interesting.  I assume it's less people on Kauai.  Ok, so I know you have to register guns there, but what is the permit for?  I assume conceal carry permits like over here?  I'm going to be spending more and more time in Kauai soon, and am trying to learn how things work there.  I might bring a gun or two over there soon. This is a very helpful thread for exactly what you stated too.  Thanks.
