Interesting.  I assume it's less people on Kauai.  Ok, so I know you have to register guns there, but what is the permit for?  I assume conceal carry permits like over here?  I'm going to be spending more and more time in Kauai soon, and am trying to learn how things work there.  I might bring a gun or two over there soon. This is a very helpful thread for exactly what you stated too.  Thanks.

If you have more questions about the permits and registration details, there are tons of posts here with that info.  Also, feel free to start your own thread if you want Kauai-specific permit information.

It's best not to get too far off topic, especially in pinned, long-time running threads.

Since I'm adding to the conversation, might as well offer this.  It contains a flowchart for purchasing a new firearm in Hawaii.

its hit and miss with the line there is no rhyme or reason to how it will be. Monday's, Friday's, after the gun show, the day after holidays tend to be more busy than Tuesday thru Thursday in my experience. Keep in mind they close at 1630 but they lock the entrance at 1500 so you need to be inside prior to that park and pay the meter accordingly. Bring 14.75 in cash exact change. Most info. can be found here, http://www.honolulupd.org/information/index.php?page=gunmain

I've been down three times in the last couple weeks.
Never more than two people in line, and close parking.
I try to go Tues-Thurs. around 11, or wait till after 2.
Avoid the day after gunshows...

Avoid the lunch time rush.
I went at lunch time earlier this year because that's the only time I could go. . . anticipating line . . . there was no one there  :o  Been going at lunch time since, between 12:15 and 12:30, maybe four out of six times there were zero to two people in line, although one time last month went with a friend, no line when we got there, left 15 minutes later and line to the door.

we should probably note what day of the week you went in the posting, so that when folks review past postings, they know what days are busy, what days aren't, etc.  otherwise you have to look at the date of the posting, then go look on a calendar what day of the week that was.  just a thought.

Friday 11/13/2015 2:15pm

Eight people ahead of me. Two left pretty quick. Now there is six and two behind me.

Update:

I was in and out in 35 minutes. When I left there were 8 people behind me. I must say HPD was getting everyone in and out pretty quickly.
