glad i started my panic buying a few weeks ago.
Is this panic buying or just residual Christmas/Holiday buying?

Damn, I'm late to the panic buying of 2016.

All I have bought recently is a few pounds of powder and some .22's. I guess the .22's qualify panic buying as they are hard to get. But powder is still fairly available.

my last purchase was sort of a Christmas gift to myself, your basic AR
and then i figured since I'm going HPD anyway, i picked up a few stripped lowers
then since i had the lowers, i might as well get some parts to build the AR's
now I have some projects in front of me.
I was never really a big fan of the AR platform, but now i sort of "bought in" to it.

Funny story as my experience was very similar. Before the panic buying in 2012 I bought 4 lowers and all the parts to build them. I sold one to a friend and built two AR's so far. I am going to build one more AR and I have been researching the upper I want to buy. I have a 5.56 and 300 BLK. I actually like the 300 BLK cartridge better than the 5.56 even though my 5.56 is much more accurate. I was never a big fan of the AR but I always wanted a 9mm Carbine. Since the Camp 9 and Ruger 9mm carbines are no longer made and sell for astronomical prices I figured the 9mm is a good fit for the AR platform.

yes that is quite similar.
I also wasn't really an AK fan either, until a friend of mine asked if i wanted to buy his since he needed some cash right away.
gave me a good deal, so why not, and it was an Arsenal.
wound up that i really liked the AK platform too.
then i bought another AK soon after.  (Christmas sale also)

I really want to get into the AK but I just not have been able to get the juices flowing for one. Don't know why. Maybe if I do like you did and just jump in and buy one I might like it.

Got there 7:15, finished at 8:45. I'm hoping in 2 weeks the panic buying isn't too bad.

Mine was taking advantage of the holiday sales. Bad timing though. I guess I just got to deal with it.

So glad I bought all my stuff before the Christmas and panic buyers lol....
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Yah, for some stuff...showed my permit, id and firearm for inspection and they told me to wait while they input my info into the system, then they had me sign the gun registration using the ipad under the counter, not sure if this is how it's always done as this was my first time registering...I still saw a few people filling out paperwork by hand tho.

Tuesday, 01/12/2016, I was #5 in line of 7 people at 7:40am.
7:55am, officer comes down the line asking for any permit pickups (myself included,  handgun). By this time, 3 were in the door, 5 in line, and 4 of us just picking up. I was given my permit and was out the door by 8:10am.

Side note: my medical is Kaiser and I received my permit with no BS, although I did apply for this permit Dec. 24th, unsure of if/how the Kaiser-HPD situation has changed since then.
