:stopjack: Went last week, about 1030 Wednesday. Took an hour. I was behind a couple folks registering multiple guns from out of state. New since earlier this year: furniture moved around, so fewer chairs. Clearing box moved to  far side of the room; table on wall opposite the counter. Being able to fill in forms saved a few seconds. Did not pre-print yellow state health clearance form. Don't bother filling out the permit application on the HPD website. They won't accept it and will hand you a form that's slightly different. Now they're requiring right thumbprint on the completed application. Twice during the hour I was there, one of the firearms section guys came out and asked if anyone was just picking up a permit.

Would hate to see another scare like 2012-13. . The previous poster who mentioned Disneyland was not far off. In January 2013, I had to renew my long-gun permit.  Arrived at 530 in anticipation of long lines. There were already 20-plus people in line.  Took me 4.5 hours.  When I left, the line was out the door, all across the front of HPD and around the corner.

The lines at HPD is minimal at this point. Sometimes it depends on the day. But for the most part it's been ok. Wait times is approximately 40min - 1:15 or so. Using the online forms to fill out cuts down on the wait times.

In that time, only once did an officer come out and ask if anyone was just picking up permits.

Got to HPD at 6:45 am today, I was the 2nd in line.  By 7:20-7:30 or so there were about 6-7 guys in line, sitting on the bench or leaning against the wall, cased firearms evident.

A female (I don't want to use any other terms to describe this person) shows up, looks at the sign on the locked door, mutters something then proceeds to stand there until 7:45 when the door is unlocked.  She walks right up to the firearms door, at which point I interrupt her and tell her that everyone else outside was waiting in line first and she should wait her turn.  She says something to the effect of "well, I don't know what you were doing there," and walks right in to the registration window.

WTF!  Several other gentlemen (that's the most appropriate description I can give because remarkably no one used any descriptive language to describe her) in line made a few comments--the best was from the guy behind me who said very clearly "well, now I won't have to wake up early, find parking and wait in line anymore...."  Registered my firearm and was out of there in a few minutes.

I can't wait for this person to show up at my gun show table!

yesterday arrived at 0715, was 4th in line
by the time they opened had 8 in line
I was out by 0815

had a military guy 2 guys in back of me, I heard him talking about how crappy Hawaii is for firearms.  no kidding.
overheard him say he can CC with military ID, and how this isn't the mainland.  no, its not the mainland.
he didn't have a Hawaii handgun safety affidavit.  I knew what was going to happen, but didn't say anything, wasn't my conversation. plus the guy knew what he was heading into.
when he got to the front, no big surprise, he needs a affidavit or military clearance by superior.  or something like that.
so he left.
end of my little story.   :shaka:

Went to register a long gun today about 1100, took about 1 hr.   Lines not too bad but the street parking on Beretania is all blocked off for repaving(?).    Parked in the C&C lot across Alapai St., but easy fast walk to HPD.
