The FBI check and ATF application form automatically adds you to the system.

I spent  an hour and a half there yesterday to register a gun. Fourteen or fifteen  people were  in line when I arrived and the line ended at the outer door. The guy behind me  (and several others further back) was only there to pick up his permit. HPD didn't have anyone out front to help with pickups only until it was his turn at the window. At least two gents  ahead of me were registering guns they bought at Sports Authority. So a few stores have a sale, and we're stepping back toward 2013. (It ain't quite that bad. yet.)

If they ain't playing with a smart phone, most people in line have the thousand-yard stare. Walking dead. Kind of like flying to the continent. Put your mind on hold until it's over.

Ought to be a question in this year's mayoral candidates  If elected, what will you do to improve service at HPD's firearms unit?

It's always the same story. The officers come to the line about 245-3p. I guess they want to get everyone through. The rest of the time they hang in the back talking story.

They want to get everyone through because their shift is about to end.

Day:  M
Time in:  0745 (was in line at around 6:40)
Time out:  0810
People in line upon Arrival: 4
People in line upon Departure:  Estimate 20 or so.  Line was out the door.  Probably had 16 in line before doors opened.
Permit Applications Submitted:  0
Permits Picked Up: 0
Local Firearms Registered: 1
Out of State Firearms Registered: 0

Was chatting with a lady that goes to the records every morning and she said Mondays and Fridays are the longest lines.  Heard stories of last week the lines were VERY long with lots of people registering guns from SA.  Similar this morning with many registering guns from SA, but other in line said it wasn't as bad as last week.

Mentioned to a couple guys that you can fill out the paperwork prior to going down.  One guy was filling out the forms for the permit to acquire for multiple handguns and he said that it would've really helped.

Nothing different since I last registered guns in early January.  They seemed to have more officers helping those in the firearms line though.

Looks like we are still looking at about an hours wait-time if you arrive during normal business hours.  Time to bust out the lawn chair and cooler.

Also reminder not to park on Beretania too early.  It's a tow away zone until 8:30 am (I think).  Some guy parked his car there Monday morning and chose to leave.  He was pretty far up in the line too.   :(

Date: Wed., 6/29
Time: 13:15
Number out the door: 10 in line + 4 people standing around with docs/firearms. Couldn't tell whether they were in line or not

Spoke to a guy exiting the building with a long gun. He said there were 10 individuals in front of him when he arrived and it took him 1.5 hours to get his rifle registered.

1230, 5 people out the doors
1.5 hours to complete paper work
i heard in the morning had about 50 people in line, out the door and down the steps

i asked when rap back will actually start, they said they dont know, AG still has to determine fees , etc.
I read somewhere else on here that it'll go live in august, but what HPD told me was "I don't know"

Friday, 7/1/16, 10:50 am.
I drove past and saw that the line was out the double doors and extended to where the metal detector is.  The immediate preceding report looks like the line was on its way down. I hope next week is better. I've put off picking up my handgun from my FFL and can no longer wait because the permit to acquire will expire.

Does anyone know what the maximum vehicle height is for the parking at HPDs lower parking garage is?  Wondering if my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer can fit.  TIA.

It should fit it is pretty high in there I have seen similar sized vehicles in there. Some spaces have limited heights due to ducting or pipes.
