one of the channels had a story on registration lines within the last 2 nights, but i forget which one

aloha

steve

It was KHON two nights ago, actually the top story at 10 PM. The anchor even commented at the end that another window would be a good idea and waits were averaging 2 hrs. The report also went into purchases and they interviewed Honolulu Firearms.

Thanks for the heads-up. It looks like KHON was the one with this story

You think the lines will get better next year come January?
The full answer is it depends. If Obama does not do and does not say anything about guns for the next year or so I believe it will die down but sales will remain strong. As long as he continues to talk about getting something passed I believe things will remain as crazy as it is right now. If he gets some legislation passed then everything will peak by the date set. And then the private aftermarket will become VERY strong. People who bought an extra black gun or lower receiver before prices got crazy are going to pull them out of the safe and sell them at a profit to those that waited too long. Those that believed that Obama wouldn't ban anything. And never bought the pieces they wanted. But now that they can't get them they will be willing to over pay to get what they want. But here is the thing. Once the private aftermarket starts to dry up you are going to see some REALLY CRAZY PRICES! Lowers and high capacity magazines will be the new gold. And after that lower kits are going to be hard to get. I am already seeing buffer kits and some complete upper/barrel combos out of stock already. BTW, already I am seeing lower receiver prices up 40%-50% over prices from just a few short weeks ago.

The only good thing about all of this is our firearms industry from the manufacturers to the suppliers to the firearms stores will benefit. That is a VERY good thing considering the state of our economy at the moment. I predict that if a ban is enacted that the creative manufacturers are going to start creating look alike black guns that are somehow not defined in the ban verbage. Also, I think you are going to start to see more modernizing and upgrading of guns still allowed such as lever action and bolt action guns. We may even see a return to popularity of pump action rifles. In the meantime the pistol and revolver market are going to continue to thrive. Especially those guns that are designed to take high capacity magazines that were banned during the so called "Assault Rifle" ban. High capacity revolvers will also become more popular such as the S&W "N" Frame Revolvers (8 shot capacity).

As always everything I said is JMHO. Please don't panic buy or "Invest" in anything thinking that I said you are going to make a killing in all of this.

I agree inspector.  A new niche market will open up once supplies start running fry or if obama manages a ban.

It still remains to be seen if the manufacturers can keep up with demand. If so prices won't rise tremendously. But they will rise. So I would expect higher prices in all things that people are going to panic over. I would also expect higher prices in ammo and powder/primers/bullets like we are already seeing. I am seeing primers already running low and out of stock in many places here and online. So expect shortages and higher prices in .223/5.56/.308/7.62x39/9mm/.45/.22 just to mention a few. This will put the hurt on those who can't afford to shoot much and those who don't keep much ammo on hand and like to stop by the gun store on their way to the range. The one that bothers me is we here on island are going to see a shortage in the cheap low end .22 ammo. With such shortages and high demand the gun stores may be less inclined to put these items on sale as well. This is how I buy .22 ammo. I wait for a sale then stock up when one comes along. Unfortunately, I am not comfortable with the level of .22 ammo I have.

All I can say is I hope I am wrong about all of this.

Got in line at 8:30 today, and the line was way past the pillar!   :wtf:  I was hoping that since it was black Friday, that a lot of people wouldn't show up.  Boy, was I wrong.  Had to get out of line, because I had to go to work.  Ridiculous.

Line is longer than the picture today.  Wait is still around 2 hours.  Need separate windows or hpd to take registration and weapon pickups or something.

Waited more than 2 hours today. By the time I left, the line was up to the 4th pillar outside.

2 hours is about right. I got in line at 0800 and walked out with my registration at 0955.

Funny you'd mention having separate lines...my son said the same and that's a 13 year old's common sense. Moving applications outside where they finger print and using the room for registrations only would help. Or even better, have people who buy from a dealer complete the registration at the register.  I think that'd eliminate 50-75% of the line/wait.

i feel bad for those people working the counter. they must get frustrated too for being so understaffed. i am sure they realize the process is flawed, but can't do anything about it.

considering how busy they are, they have always been nice to me.  personally, i have never seen them disrespect or talk down to anyone.

When I picked up my permit on the 14th around lunch time, a woman was taking people out of line to who were just there for permits.

The line was to the second pillar, and I asked her if it was that bad all the time, and she said, "yeah, everyday!"

When I registered my lower, I was there at 7:20 and was the 9th person in line. By the time the office opened, there were 15 more people in back of me. Crazy!
