My friend who went to get his permit today said one of the guys in the front of the line got there at 130 AM!  If I understood him correctly that person was second in line.  Seriously  :wtf: but as someone previously posted, it's worth it for them.

Pretty soon they will have to set up porta potties.
Don't think you can take your gun inside to use the building's facilities.

with all those people legally registering their guns imagine how many more guns out there unregistered. Well the process is what it is and if you want a gun you have to follow the guidelines set forth by HPD. If you don't like the lines don't buy a gun... now all those same people in line are going to the damn range, whats the line going to look like there????

someone should capitalize on the opportunity and open an outdoor private gun range... $$$$$$

Kinda sad that it's not the money or lack of a permit stopping me from picking up a shotgun, it's the thought of waiting in line for HOURS!!!  Hopefully all this will die down by June, maybe July!?!?!?

newbies can't go to the range and shoot if the little bit of ammo available is really expensive
and those of us that have ammo and mags are gonna be saving them
so my prediction is the range is gonna be less crowded soon
only those who stocked up in advance or reload will be there, and those aren't gonna be the newbies

No one is talking about banning ammo, so I'm not sure what the hype is there.  More importantly, restrictions on ammunition are going to be met with a swath of lawsuits and injunctions.  Ammo is just solid hype imo.   We are going to see an increase now, and then a huge drop in prices because no one will be buying, they will be shooting what they saved.

Sadly I have to report the same.  I have some gun funds, but don't want to deal with the insanity right now.  I don't "need" it, but I've been wanting an M&P 45 for a while now.  Hopefully it's in the cards in a couple of months.

I did see some proposing restricting how much ammo individuals could buy in a set period of time but even that smells of lawsuits. Imagine the guy who lives in the boonies in the mainland and hunts everyday to feed his family, and those types do exist. Who knows how much ammo this guy really needs, especially if he is a poor shot.

it may slow me down some.
but when i do purchase, I try to get at least 2 at a time bc i ain't waiting in that line for 1 gun at a time.
better make the wait worth while.
reverse gun-buyers' psychology.  :geekdanc:

Howzit to all and Happy New Year.  Just joined 2aHawaii to give my experience of the HPD line.
Went yesterday at 0230 and was 5th in line.  Almost everyone had a folding chair and snacks.
IMHO it's better to spend most of the wait time in the early morning because it's cooler and less hassle since building business hours hasn't started yet.  I was done registering about 0815.  When I used the buildings restroom the officer in the booth let me bring my rifle case with me after asking if I should leave it with him.  Officer was helpful and pleasant and was sympathetic to our situation.
As mentioned before by others, meeting good guys in line and talking story really helped pass the time.
The officers behind the glass were professional and courteous and handled the flow well.
Good luck to all and go with the flow.   ;)

The lines will dry up once the supply of firearms start to dry up.  Well not so much dry up as hit the point where people are not willing to buy extremely overpriced $$$ gouging firearms.

IMHO give it a couple of weeks and it will die down until the next shop gets their allocation of firearms, then the lines will swell again.

Where in the FAWK do you guys park?  Just run down to the parking structure and feed it every two hours?

Waited in line at 7:15 a.m. and there were at least 30 people ahead of me. I was near the first light post between the building and the numerous large trees surrounded by concrete planters.

I was able to enter the double glass doors at about 9:15 a.m. I registered two lowers and left at 10:15 a.m. for a total wait time of three hours. If you minus 30 minutes to account for HPD's 7:45 a.m. opening time, then my actual wait was two and a half hours. This is still outrageous nonetheless. It would appear that it takes an hour to serve every 10 people. A few minutes after the 7:45 a.m. opening, I did notice an officer asking people in line if they're just picking up permits, which helped reduce the main line. These permit-pickup people were directed to wait along the wall before the double doors.

I hope this dies down in the next couple of weeks or HPD brings in more staff to handle the crowd. Happy new year everyone!

Unfortunately, there are many people talking about ammo bans....I don't personally think they will be able to withstand legal scrutiny, but they could be passed and remain in effect until heard in the Courts.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg also exploited the tragic movie theater shooting last month to push his legislation to ban online gun sales and report purchases of 1,000 rounds or more. The New Jersey Democrat said these provisions would “prevent the sale of ammunition to a terrorist or the next would-be mass murderer.”

I was lucky and my wife dropped me off, BUT I did catch "shock n awe" after telling her about this new rifle.
Heard that the med clinic on Young St. across from Thomas Square has all day parking during these early hours for $12.00.  Beats paying  a parking ticket.
Other than that, maybe NBC after 0600 for all day parking?
