on a side note:
there was this looney tunes guy this morning, not in the line,
but parked his minivan in front on beretainia, and talking about God and stuff
PO was talking to the guy saying "you better move your car, or its gonna get towed."
the looney tune said, "thats ok, i can afford the penalty."
so his car got towed.
cops gave him fair warning.  ;)

Got there today at 630am, line was just past the covered area in front of the office. Got almost to the door at 8am when an officer came out for the first time to ask for IDs from people picking up permits. He came back out about 20 minutes later with a bunch of permits and I left with my permit before 830am. While I was waiting for my permit/ID another officer came out to collect IDs from permit picker-uppers.

I was in line by 0445 this morning, Jan 2nd.
There were 5 guys in front of me.
Doors opened promptly at 0745 and I was done registering my shotgun by 0830.
I parked downstairs in the garage, which doesn't require money in the meters till 0730. At 0645 I went downstairs, fed the meter some quarters and that covered me till I was finished.

Line was about what folks have already reported.

Looney guy was strange: He started off asking everyone in line to go summon a cop for him. Folks in line told him: "The night watch is right inside; go get them yourself." Finally, an HPD officer came out, then looney guy complained to the officer that he was worried that the cops were trying to kill him!  :wtf:
And that he heard voices talking to him, and it was God.
Apparently God doesn't care about parking meters or tow-away zones because looney guy stuck around, as others have said.

For a data point, the few folks I chatted with agreed that C&C should at least consider allowing firearms registration in Kapolei (isn't that our second city?) if not at all the satellite city halls.

Agreed about expanding registration at all satellite city hall locations. This is just the "secondary" and less important part of the firearms acquisition process.

Permitting and pickup can still be at the main HPD station as these are the key aspects of the firearms process.

Happy new year everyone!

The Supreme Court has ruled that you, as an individual, have no right to protection by the police. Their only obligation is to protect "society".

anyone seen the news tonight?  legislature changed the rules so that state IDs can be picked up at any DMV.  Hopefully the same thing can be done so we can register a gun at any station.

I'm cynical, why make it easier for us to get guns?

Not quite sure that the state did it to make getting a state ID any easier.  I think it is more along the lines of the state trying to save money.  What it essentially did though, is increase the lines for those trying to renew or acquire an HDL.  As far as I know, at this time, there's only one line for both.  Go figure.
As far as the line at HPD, with the new mayor being sworn in today, hopefully some solutions can be explored.  Allowing the station at Kapolei to perform the same functions  as the Beretania station would be a great start.  One can only hope.

Drove by there around 6 am this morning and looked like there was about 30 people sitting or standing around outside the lobby area.  It was cold and rainy this morning too and looked like most people were dressed warmly.

Hope the line moves quickly.

I've been monitoring updates pretty closely and sadly I admit that there are a couple of guns that I want and have cash for but don't want to deal with the hassle of waiting 2,3 even 4 or 5 hours in those lines.  Well, that and a few of the LGSs were closed over the holidays.   ;)

I'll have to get in that line to register either today or tomorrow. I'm already ready to go out and do it today but I'm waiting for the traffic to die down.

After this one I'd probably wait a while before buying my 1911. I wonder if I should just run over somewhere to buy a shotgun and register it today too lol
