Both. There were a few that were first timers ahead of me needing finger printing...

I was there at 2:00 PM and they asked if anyone was just picking up around 3:00 PM just before locking the exterior door.

I was unable to register my firearm and will have to go back tomorrow.  I am now overdue on my registration date (HPD website says 5 calendar days so the holiday weekend just added to my stress).  I was unable to make it past the exterior doors but decided to try my luck and wait outside till 4:30 PM , you know, their actual closing time.  They were able to make it through the rest of the customers that made it inside the two rooms.  Myself and another person were waiting patiently to see if they would let us in since there was no one else in line, but they locked up the doors at 4:13 PM.

I'm currently debating what time I should go by HPD tomorrow to register my firearm.

Let's get some more signatures on this petition!

http://hawaiirifleassociation.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=96:get-involved&catid=1:articles&Itemid=50

"We have started a petition asking the City Council to allow registration of firearms at all Honolulu Police stations. Currently you can only register your firearms at the Beretania Street station and this makes it very difficult for some who live outside Honolulu. In addition, the increase in firearms sales has created long lines that sometimes stretch outside the outer doors of the firearms branch office. HPD is even closing the doors at 3 PM to complete the registration process by 4:30 PM when the office closes.

In addition to allowing registrations at all police stations, we are asking for extended hours for those that cannot easily take off work several times during the week to register their firearms."

Please sign and pass the word along!

Don't worry about the 5 day. Hpd knows how the lines are ever since dec. they will give leeway. I reg 2 weeks later when the lines were somewhat down. Just don't shoot ur shit and leave it at home till u reg, and lock it up!

They don't give a rip if we have to work etc.. They would rather make it difficult for people to have guns, why do u think its so hard to get a handguns having us go back n fourth just to obtain, and this is for each handgun. Rifles are easier to get but still messed up. You think hpd wants to work more hrs with angry waiting gun grabbers.

Drove by at 5:45 and saw three people in line.  Drove by again at around 6:15 and say 6 people waiting outside.

Read about webcams being installed for lines in drivers license renewal sites... Hint hint.... Of course security is of concern, just focus cam angles line of site away from employees work stations and just for the ease of making a decision to take off for the day to register, applying, renewing, etc...

But that would make things too easy for us.

The best solution to the long lines is to at least allow gun registrations at police stations throughout Oahu. I can understand requiring permit requests and pickup at the main station. After all, the permitting process is the main "checkpoint" to determine whether someone is fit to purchase and own a firearm, and I understand that the primary computer system is to be kept at the main police station.

Once someone is approved, the registration process is just an afterthought and a method of appeasing the lawmakers, police department and the public in making firearms purchasers follow a law with questionable usefulness and much expense. It's really a typing and a flag-the-computer-system-that-the-gun-is-registered exercise so why can't this be done at any Oahu police station? It would also give relief to the officers working behind the glass at the main police station.

This is why registration should be allowed at multiple police stations.
