Took 1:15 from exiting the car to leaving.

The line was by the door.

Got to HPD at 2:10 pm. 11 people in front of me. Parked on the street. You get twice the bang for you quarter than in the HPD parking lot. Line is moving quickly because officer is processing permit pickups an firearm registration right in the hall.  Expect to be out of here in 15-20 with some luck.

Seems like they only do this toward the end of the day to be sure they can leave on time
I was in and out in under an hour but the line seemed to slow a lot after I got to the window since they guy behind me in line was registering/picking up permits for 5+ handguns for Hawaii gun club.

Big Island procedures that seem to be different:

The people working in the office are civilian employees, not uniformed officers.  The do clerical work full time and are good at it.

Permits and registration forms are done on a computer and printed out (including a color picture on the PTA).

It doesn't take as long, and there are 5 places on the Big Island that do registrations.

Yep, I've never had problems and they all are quite pleasant and try to get everyone in and out as fast as possible.

2 hours to register.  In at 10.45 out at 1.45.   Line ebbed and flowed within the door and outside.  Was 4 deep outside when I left.  Around noon they finally walked the line and asked if anyone was picking up.

Now I isn't the smartest man, but isn't that 3 hours?

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Arrived at 10:50am today, 3/7, to renew my rifle permit and was 6th in line outside the double doors.
1.5 hours later I was done with the line extending to the security check-in.  At no time did anyone call for permit pick-ups.
