At this point, we might as well shut this thread down.
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

2 hours to register 15 firearms but that included trips back to the car to get more since I didn't have anyone available to help me carry em all in at once. Not too bad overall. The actual background check portion only took maybe 30 minutes.

HPD now has all the forms online so you can fill them out prior to going there.

"Excerpt from the HPD Site Application Tab"
As an option, applicants may have their processed permits mailed to them. Applicants need to provide a self-addressed, certified restricted-delivery, pre-paid envelope (available at the U.S. Post Office) when coming for their initial application for permit.

Picked up my permit at 10:30am - no line.  Registered at 12:45 - no line.  Less than 10 min for each visit.

I wouldn't be surprised if HPD was closed today (7/4/13), but will they be open tomorrow Friday 7/5? or do they have a 4 day weekend as well?

the only page that wont work is the firearm info page

they need it to be carbon copied 3 times, so you gotta fill that one out there.
also if you have straub or kaiser insurance, they have a special form for those carriers at HPD.

I wonder if we will see a lot of people renewing their permits in December when the rush started.

Depends on the strength of the next anti gun legislation push.

Applied for my handgun and long-gun renewal this morning.  SASE, certified restricted-delivery, pre-paid envelopes costed my over $10 each (one for each transaction).  Might be worth it driving from Waianae.  I'll lose couple days on my handgun registration period due to postal delays.

I expect the next rush will be before the 2014 elections.

If it's like last year, there will be a huge increase during the Black Friday - Christmas rush.  Prices are already returning to more affordable ranges.  If the industry supply exceeds anticipated demand, there will be good deals again to entice buyers.
When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".

I will make sure to buy my "essential to have" rifles and pistols at the beginning of the new year to avoid any rushes.
