In Hawaii where do the EV owners go to properly dispose of their batteries?

Dealer?
Home Depot used batteries bin?
City and County Convenience Centers?
Landfill?
Side of the road when nobody's looking?

I find that the more "big box' stores one frequents, the more need they have for a vehicle with more cargo space than a Corolla trunk or LEAF hatchback.  Here, if you don't need a truck, you probably don't own a home or have a family to provide for.

Of course, there are new EV/Hybrid trucks and SUVs on the market now, so the argument about hauling capacity is losing traction.

Quite true. When I was single my car was a Porsche 911. My father blew his mine when I told him the monthly payment, in 1975, was $267/month when our 3 bedroom/2bath house in Punchbowl area was $271 including escrow.  After I got married and had kids, my forced choice of cars became vans and SUVs.

An EV with 330 mile range would be bare minimum.  A round trip to Kona from my house is 200 miles. Add in driving around Kona for a day and the less miles you will get climbing the big mountain on your way there makes an EV not my choice of vehicle.  A hybrid would be ok or if I still lived on Oahu, I would definitely get an EV.

Not with the highest electricity rates in the nation.

It's relative to the current gas prices.  When prices go up, demand for EVs skyrockets.

Saw it firsthand when we got my daughter's Prius.  When we signed the deal, the dealership had over 2 dozen various models in stock.  Three days later when ours was ready to pick up, the salesman said our timing was perfect.  All their current inventory was gone, and everything that was on order already had deposits on them.

Oil prices spiked that week above previous highs, and gas prices followed suit.

Obama wasn't wrong when he said it would take $10/gallon prices to get Americans out of our vehicles and into alternative energy ones.

So update

I got my EV about 2 years ago because my work had free and available charging.  This is key, the consistent availability to charge.  Like if you go to Ala Moana, the stations are always taken.  Our bldg had 2 chargers and all the EV owners were in a group chat so we would msg when we are done.  This way 1 isn't constantly going down stairs to check.  Also Tesla's have a live camera you can view, other EV's don't have this.  1 charger charged 16% an hour and the other about 8% an hour.

Well our office moved, so using this is no longer an option.  Now I am using my condo's charger which cost $2 an hour for about 9% charge.  This is cheaper than gas, but it took me 4 days to get the charger.  We have 2 chargers and 400 condo units.  Of which maybe like 20+ EV's who use it.  I'm the kind of guy when my gas or juice gets to 50%, I refill.  So trying to use this for the past 4 days, I was down to 30%.  I was only able to fill up to 75% because there is a 5 hour limit.  My EV also loses 1% a day for when the vehicle is just parked.  Compared to an ICE that loses no gas when just parked.  I now bicycle to work cause parking sucks.  My new office parking does have 6 chargers, but they cost money, plus parking is $8/hr.  Unless you get in before 8am and get the early bird $13 flat rate. IDK how much the chargers there cost or how fast.

I leased the vehicle because it was my first EV and I didn't want to get stuck with it and have to sell in case for what ever reason I didn't like it.  All was going good the past 2 years.  The hard part is that I love the Model Y, the interior is my favorite.  A very futuristic and sleek look.  So which ever ICE I plan to buy next year, won't measure up.

So if anyone is going to buy an EV, they must have a consistent place available to charge.  Residential homes are OK as you can probably just plug the car into the nearest socket.  But if you live in a condo or apartment, then it's a much bigger problem.

My coworker is also in the same boat.  HIs condo only has 1 charger that's always taken.  Even at 3am.  So he too is going to get rid of his EV and buy an ICE car.

^^^^This.

Until EV chargers are fast like gas fill ups (5 mins to go from empty to full), EV's aren't a good replacement for ICE.  Also said charging stations have to be as abundant as gas stations, which right now they aren't. Even in liberal CA, the line of Tesla's waiting for a station that has at least 12 superchargers are 20 cars deep.

Current lithium batteries can tolerate fast charging but a user trades life over fast charging. I have had several lithium batts puff up due to fast charging and discharging. I also had them swell due to letting them sit full charged or depleted. I'm already shopping for a new lithium ion battery pack for my bike.

I would not buy an EV if I didn't have the means to charge it at home.  By home I mean a single family dwelling and not a place where the charger has to be shared.

Yeah, I think condos should at least offer 220v receptacles for one parking stall per resident.  That way they can connect directly if their vehicle can, or plug up their own charging station.  Power consumption can be metered per stall, and the HECO charges paid by the condo owners.  Of course, there needs to be some security measure to turn off or lock out access to the outlets, or people will be stealing juice from their neighbors.  Hopefully associations can catch and fine people who do that.  The fines should become restitution to pay the owner of the stolen electricity.

220v outlets are safer (lower amperage) and more efficient than 110-120v.  220v also reduces wire size requirements, breaker cost and overall installation costs.

Condo owners can request more chargers from the HOA.  It would cost $5k - $15k for each one.  With the prevalence of EVs and plug in hybrids nowadays it should get a lot of support, at least in newer mid to upper income condos.  Tack on a small extra fee for charging and the HOA can get income from it for other projects.

it would be hard to get approved if it's a low income or older apartments with a lot of maintenance issues.

I know 1 building that if you ask, they will install a regular power outlet.  The kind you plug your phone into at your home.  This will give 1 about 3% an hour for a Model Y.  But like Zipps said, others charge much more and you get the cost of the juice. So it really isn't an affordable option if you have to pay $5K up front.  I'm not sure how much that building I mentioned charges for juice or if it is even pushed back to the owner.

The other issue with this option is that I rent a stall, so again, it's not worth the investment as my rental lease is month to month. Or at best, annual.

Just before I retired I was working on some Multi-Dwelling Townhome projects in Kapolei where the units would come with enclosed 1 or 2 car garages, depending on size of the home.

Part of our contract involved running a 1" PVC conduit from the Electric panel to an installed outlet in the garage.  That's it.  No wires, no extra breakers in panel.  Only a conduit to the box with a pull string.  The conduit was installed during the slab phase of the building so it is embedded in the slab from panel wall to the outlet wall.

On the blueprint it was designated as an outlet for future EV outlet.  The homeowners can hire either us or someone of their choice to install the EV outlet for them.  Some homeowners hired us not to install EV outlets but extra independent circuits so they can put Entertainment Centers in their garages along with extra outlets for freezers and refrigerators.
