Here is my edc as needed. Battery size does matter.
My fav is old reliable stream light Pro Tac 2 AA.

Not really considered EDC, but I use a Petzl Tactikka headlamp around the house and at night. I don't want to wake up family and bother them, so I usually go around doing stuff without having to turn on every light in the house.

Same same. Any night work and this i the first one I grab. Picked mine up from Climb Aloha. Love the red light option when I don’t want to attract any attention or preserve night vision.

Recently i had just picked up a pair of nitecores, the E4K and a MH12s with a tini2 in the mail but that one is for a present.  I brought each one with me on a nightly walk, they are very bright.  The E4K is almost like a flood light(wide throw) but you only get about 20 seconds at max because of the thermal cutoff as it gets hot fast.  The MH12s has a narrower throw and does the job, i mounted it near the end of one of my fishing rods.  Kind of messed up and didn't buy the one that came with the tac switch.  Both have the newer 21700 size bats with the built in chargers so that's nice, down side is the 'turbo' mode is inaccessible with the 18650.
Picked up a pair of Klarus lights also, a GL1 and a EP10 v2.  GL1 is nice and bright but the switch seems a little flimsy but time and use will tell.  The EP10 was only 20$ and is supposedly rated for 1k lumen.  Shining it side by side with a ST-12, bought probably 5 years ago, seems slightly dimmer with the ST-12 rated for 900 lum.
Had a O light baton S2 for a while.  After about a dozen drops on the hard floor it stopped working.  Wouldn't switch on anymore so something internally was broken, switch did work and would get a quick few flashes before it would shut off.
I wouldn't mind picking up some USA made lights but unfortunately the price point and what you get for it doesn't pencil out in comparison.

Not Nightcore, but I’ve been given or gifted more budget friendly lights, as well as some to test. Many performed decent in terms of lumens and candela, but also many just quit working or light quality (color and throw) quickly degraded.

I have a few Olight models and have a rechargeable pocket size one on the way. Seen some bad reviews of Olight, but so far they’ve been good for me. I still have Surefire, Streamlight, and Modlites, but they are damn pricey.

just got this in the mail couple days ago.  it was $30 off on Amazon for a couple days so I got it
Warrior 3s
upgrade from my Warrior 2
the 3s has 550 more lumen than the warrior 2 now it's 2300 lumen, an upgraded battery indicator and light level indicator, and a distance sensor which dims the light when it gets close to an object so it doesn't set it on fire

downside of Olight flashlights.  most of them, but not all of them.
the run time at full power isn't that long. at full power it may run for a few minutes, then goes to lower power to save battery.  not a deal breaker but I noticed compared to Fenix lights for example, the Fenix ones tend to run for an hour or more, sometimes 2 or more hours at full power before going to lower power.  maybe other brands are similar
if you tend to use your light everyday for longer periods of time at full power this may be something to consider

for a defensive/tactical light, I like to have a tail switch.  it can also have a side switch for lower lumen output.  but when you need it at full power, quickly, for a defensive purpose, I like to have the tail switch bc it's easy to find and its in a good position for defensive striking if necessary

I haven't noticed yet.  I have one AAA battery light, and two rechargeable.  The one on my keychain, I charge every so often while I am at work.  I just got another pocket sized one.  If I end up carrying regularly, same plan.  Charge regularly while I am in the office.  I rarely use.  For the AAA one, I use for camping here and there.

I noticed for a couple of my "full sized" Streamlights, the output is noticeably lower when batteries get lower.  I have a meter, where I could check, but I usually just get a new set of batteries.  Do a quick check to make sure it's the batteries.  If output returns with fresh batteries, I swap them out.
