Sig P226 Legion SAO
« on: January 16, 2023, 07:56:37 AM »

Finally got to shoot it
First impression is wow! Fantastic shooter!
Trigger is 2 lbs 9 oz. Weight is heavier with alum alloy frame and steel slide but not bad at all, red Dot is pretty good Romeo1 pro big window and top loaed battery. Grip is very stable, fatter than a 1911 but very comfortable
Overall makes for a great shooter, accurate, fast to get back on target, soft shooter
Would be a great duty, carry, ,defensive, Military, law enforcement, range, competition pisto!
I am very impressed with this pistol. Trigger rivals my loaded Operator, although the operator trigger is crisper but the Legion trigger is lighter
This pistol just makes shooting it so easy. Well worth the price tag

Nice! I have an older gen 226. I really want to put a red dot on it. Will a a newer version slide fit on an older version? Mines cannot put a red dot on.

You can send your slide to a number of gunsmithing places and have it cut to fit your red dot.  If you also replace the iron sights with taller ones, most places will install and bore sight them for you at the same time.  They can also mount your optic.  Just send all the parts in with the slide.  When you get it back, it'll be 100% assembled and ready to go.

If you're reluctant to alter your original slide, you can find after market slides to fit.  If it doesn't already have the optic area cut, you can have it done as described above.

You might also check forums and GunBroker.  Someone might have a slide cut for one optic, but decided to use a different optic.  The cuts might not be the same, so they could be selling the slide and existing optic to pay for the new one.

Lots of possibilites.

I guess probably easier to just get another hand gun that can take red dot. It’s just a red dot is easier for me with my old eyes. I see great through a scope. Irons? Not anymore.

Nothing wrong with upgrading!

I'm sure if you have no need to keep the first P226, someone will be willing to offer a fair price.

Yea I’m sure.. but I probably gonna just sign it over to my son. Btw, I just got off the phone with Sigs CS. They need my serial to make sure current slides will fit. They said some years back, they made the frame thicker. So I’ll call them back tomorrow. Will update here

Sig sells a slide that 's compatible with the ROMEO1Pro, Delta Point Pro, and RMR Red Dot Sights.

Says it fits any railed P226 and won't void the warranty.

If i'm spending that much on just the slide, not including the optic, then I'd be leaning toward a whole new pistol rather than putting that much into an older one.

That's just me, of course.

Agreed! That’s close to a new pistol. Nice slide though!

I don't know if you looked at these, but since it wasn't part of this thread, I thought I'd bring it up.

You can add a mounting plate to almost any pistol slide using the rear dovetail sight notch.

There are a few mentions of those in other threads here.  if you're wanting to preserve the slide (no milling), don't want to fork out big bucks for a milled slide or complete red-dot-ready pistol, and/or want the option to take it off and go back to iron sights, this might be a good solution.

You can also find them in the $20-$170+ range depending on material, brand and pistol model.

If you can change out your rear sights, you can install one of these mounts.  Adds a tiny amount of elevation compared to a milled slide, but it's an option.

Shot the P226 Legion recently for the 3rd time, and now this is my favorite semiauto pistol
So easy to shoot, trigger is so light with super short reset, grip is comfortable, ergos are great, sights and optic work well.
Everything about this pistol is excellent

With SAO, looks like it's designed as cocked and locked, like a 1911.  As opposed to DA/SA.  Does your range allow draw from holster?  It would be interesting to see what your times are with the various pistols (cocked and locked, DA/SA, striker).

that's why I like it.  I'm a 1911 fan, so I like that it functions similarly to a 1911

Cool.   A couple of shooting friends that I used to see shooting the P226 Legion at pistol classes really liked them.  Not sure if they were the SAO, or what configurations they come in.  At least one of those shoots a CZ P10 regularly, and he did mention a little bit of transition when switching between them.  I noticed it a little when shooting my CZ SP-01 Shadow, then one of my Glocks.  Not major, but something I noticed.
