I saw a similar thread here from April 2011.   Just wondering if anyone has any updated input on this?  Looking at NIB SIG 556 R for $1100, very slightly used SGL-21 for $800, or NIB SLR107 for cose to $1100.  All prices negotiable of course and these things are hard to get right now.

SLR107 would be my first choice.
The legendary AK reliability and a factory folder.
What more could you ask for?

SGL21 would be my second choice.
Everything the SLR107 has except for the folding stock.

7.62x39 Sig would be my last choice.
I considered getting one of them but I read that a whole lot of people were having problems with them.

I went with an SLR-101s.  I thought about the SLR-107, but ended up going with the milled receiver.

I've actually heard good things about the Sig 556R.  But I never really considered it though.  It seemed pretty pricey and IIRC was a little finicky with mags.  But I never had a chance to shoot it, so no first hand experience.

556R went through some running changes to fix problems in the early models

that said, i would get one of the AK variants because they may get difficult/impossible to get and very expensive soon
and i own a sig 556 SWAT (and don't own an AK), so i am not being biased by a love of AKs or hating on sig 556

Out of those three, I would go for the SLR 107. Availability is the biggest factor in your choices right now and in the near future. The AK market will dry up much faster than the AR/ Sig market.

I had the same decision to make about two months ago, I picked up a SLR 101 for right under a $1000 and recently got some lowers to satisfy my black rifle disease.

What Gen, is the SIG 556R? if its the first Gen then yeah it had troubles with the mags/extraction/light firing strikes cause they rushed production without much R&D, but Sig Had a warranty for free just had to send it to them and wait, did a lot of researched on people owning them and said they run flawlessly with cheap steel ammo, and mags.... well if u pass up the Sig u can push the seller my way, cause that's what I'm looking for :D

I passed on the SIG.  LGS in Hilo was bringing a couple in.  Never checked back to see if they were still there.
