Holy Insurance Fraud, Batman!!

If you ever find a random non-human mammal in your Mainland quarters, do NOT release it into  the wild.  Capture it or call someone to capture it and have it tested for rabies -- even if you were not bitten or scratched.

This CA couple had a bat visit them in their home.  The husband caught it and released it.  When they contacted their healthcare provider, they suggested they get a rabies vaccine since the animal can't be tested.

The couple got the shots and went back for a followup.  The initial ER shot was billed at $200,000 between the two patients, and another $6,000 for the follow-ups.

Rabies vaccines normally run on average about $500-$600.  All this would have been avoided had the bat been tested. (I wonder if it spoke Chinese?   :geekdanc:)

Even though the couple only had to pay about $3,500 out of pocket, that's still more than the reasonable cost of the vaccines, and the insurance company is getting gouged for the rest.

There are investigations in the works, so it'll be good if any updates are reported.  In the meantime, you should always review the billed charges from doctors, dentists, pharmacies and hospitals to make sure they are not double billing or massively inflating the costs.  Eventually, we are the ones who wind up getting sucked dry (vampire reference).

Remember when Obama said mandatory health insurance would lower premiums AND healthcare costs for everyone?  Yeah, I do.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
