Gun permit application line

The PTA application process would be much quicker if they required you to fill out the forms before getting into the line instead of waiting until you get to the window.  Just sayin…

Make sure you use black in. HPD gets mad when you use blue and may make you re-do it.

They also have a new version of the Firearms application...I imagine that threw a curveball to some folks.

if I'm not mistaken, I think there's the forms that are on-line, that you can and should fill out before you go down there, and then there's the 1 form they hand you at the window.  I think the form they hand you at the window has the "G" number on it, it's serialized, so with the current process, they can't post that one on-line because of the serialization.

also found out that if you're doing more than 1 PTA in a visit, you only need 1 set of the medical info, the mental waiver forms.  1 set per day.  I didn't know that.  Maybe y'all knew that, but I didn't.  Ended up taking home a bunch of papers to shred.

somebody correct me if I'm wrong.  It would only be the 87 millionth time for this year, so far.

HPD can not ask someone to leave once they’ve begun the process of acquiring a permit for firearms (I.e. entered the office and gone up to the window). HPD has been sued in the past for making people leave and fill out forms due to people believing that their 2nd amendment rights are being infringed upon.

Because of that, HPD no longer sends people away and must allow them to fill out the forms there in the room (even when people haven’t filled out any forms at all).

The best thing you can hope for is people telling other people to fill out forms beforehand; many first timers are taking a long time at the counter/ in the room due to having no forms filled out. HPD has placed signs on the door but the signs are always ignored.

If everyone came in with forms filled out completely, the process for a Handgun or Longgun permit would take like 5 minutes tops.

Why have to fill out forms every single time when renewing anyway?  If all your info is all the same, why have to do it over and over again? Why have to do multiple SAME forms for every single transaction?

It is to make it as unpleasant as possible to exercise your rights. Plain and simple. None of it solves or prevents any crime.

People’s information change.

Also, HPD legally needs consent to conduct the checks every time someone applies, hence having to fill out the forms every time.

One set of forms for EACH handgun?
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

Yeah; couldn’t tell you the reasoning behind that one.

I’m almost 100% positive that if HPD wanted to streamline the process they would. It’s about making the process as annoying as possible. There’s no need for the redundancy of information that is requested at every step of the process.

HPD has streamlined the process the best they can with the current state laws. HPD has no reason to delay anything out of spite. The litigation regarding Michael Santucci and the emailing of permits and online registration has increased HPD’s workload without allocating more assets to the firearms unit or time to transition. With the introduction of CCW, wait times for everything had increased as the amount of people working behind the counters has not.

If HPD has full control of the firearms process, it would look a lot different, but they are held to what the state (and AG’s office) determine.

There is no incentive for HPD to delay firearms applications or registrations; why would they?

Forms

This form was recently updated.  Easier and faster if you use a computer to fill in, save, and print or print and manually fill in.

Other fillable forms attached.

I noticed that the (fillable) Medical Information Waiver has a space at the bottom for "Witness".  is that for the police officer behind the counter to witness?

I forget...  ???

the Mental Health Waiver, yellow form, is not fillable.

The “witness” block is for the officer/clerk at the counter to sign at time of application.

This is exactly my point. It’s purely political.  Not knocking HPD firearms.

Your good old politicians make your rights as painful as possible to exercise.

There’s absolutely no reason all of the processes cannot be done online.

The whole process period is unconstitutional anyway. Should be struck down as such.

That would mess me up. I have copies of all the forms mostly filled out in my computer. I just print, sign , and date the forms, then take the firearm info . Time to make new forms.

As of this week (04/10-04/14), a valid CCW license holder gets the 14-day background period waived.
