A recent scam involving ATMs is going around.
Scammers put glue/cards stuck in the "swipe slot" so customers can't insert their bank card. Most ATMs today require you to swipe or insert your card so it can be read but won't allow subsequent transactions without swiping the card again.
However, if you Tap your card on the electronic reader/pad, many ATMs will leave the last screen displayed asking if you want another transaction. If you don't say "No", the screen will timeout after a short period.
The scammer will then step in front of the machine as you leave and continue making withdrawals.
Sometimes they will stand at the machine beside the victim, or they might stand in line behind them. If you look puzzled when trying to figure out why your card won't fit in the slot, they might tell you to just Tap it.
Some people just use their phones now to access their debit card info. That's even easier for the crooks, since you're already planning to use the Tap pad.
Never let someone in line "help you" without asking for help. And always make sure you've closed out your session before walking away. Easiest way is to ensure the screen is asking for a card to be swiped, inserted or tapped.
