I can speak to this with some authority
as I was in Boeing experimental flight test for twenty plus years.
B777 had a weight limit on deck beams as does every airplane.
I mention B777 because it was the lowest we had to deal with.
It is always assumed every passenger is 100 kg, that is 220 pounds
for you Democrats.
Pilots do a weight and balance check before flight.
So they don't look like the 747 in Afghanistan shortly after take off.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/15/crash-of-boeing-747-in-afghanistan-caused-by-shifting-cargo

That is to some degree why airlines are reluctant to allow
you to switch seats.

I fully agree that seats suck today, I usually pay extra for premium seating.
but the market should set the standard not the government.

I saw make part of the ticket price tied to a passenger's total weight, bag and themselves. This way it is fair.

Nope.  it's not cost effective nor feasible to weigh every single person and charge them "custom" fares.  Just have a max size limit for the "standard" fare, and just like luggage you'd pay for an "oversize" passenger. Not by weight -- by size.

They can install a narrow turn style to enter the regular gangway.  If you don't fit, then you need to upgrade your ticket to the plus size fare with seats able to accommodate you.  Either buy a 1st class seat or multiple coach seats together so you have room, and other passengers don't get seated next to you.

It would not be very hard at all to weigh a person and their baggage. They already weigh the baggage, only thing that might have to change would be to get a larger scale. You would have to come up with a new pricing model but that would not be very hard. Set price for the seat space then a fuel charge based on the total weight.

Someone bringing on 400 lbs on the airplane should pay more than someone bringing on 50 pounds because it uses more fuel. Sucks for the heavy person (including me) but great for children.

It might be nice if they make a seating option like extra comfort but with more width instead of just more leg room. Doesn't have to be first class level service, just a little more room and the super big people could just buy those seats instead of two whole seats.

Weight is not the problem. Dimensions are.

A tall person of 240 lbs may easily fit in coach, but a 5' 4" person of the same weight will be spilling over into others' spaces.

The only fair "test" is to see if they fit in the seat they want to purchase size-wise.  if not, they need to pay for a larger or second seat.

I am talking about a fair way to charge everyone that can be tied to fuel costs which would be the most fair and transparent method. Not the same exact issue as seat with but a parallel issue.

Fuel costs are not the issue.  Not even close.

Did you bother to read the story?

There are two issues with large heavy passengers. Space and weight.

Sorry but that is a C-5 getting a C-130.
I used to fix them. Tax payers spent lots of money
teaching me how to fix their avionics.

C17 doesn't have a front door.
Scared the hell out of me the first
time I activated a C5 nose opening.
It looked like you just dumped the
airplane on the deck.
Civilian contractors laughed at my reaction.

When I was working for HA, I boarded Iz 3 times using the wheelchair lift because he couldn't climb the stairs. No jetway back then.  He had to buy two seats and we put on the seat belt extension.  I also early boarded Jose Feliciano once and he bought 5 seats.  For him, the wife and his 3 guitars which we seat loaded and tied down.
