A classic movie!!

Now that we have a rail system, Hollywood can do a woke Hawaii-locale remake of that movie:

The Rainbow Warriors

Exactly.
Wasn't the purpose of the "Second City" to put jobs including C&C jobs out thereto alleviate traffic ?

Oahu's Second City.  A place to live, work, and play.

It has grown where there are businesses, restaurants, retail malls and outlets.  Even a West Oahu Campus.  And of course houses as far as the eye can see.

Funny though, the H-1/H-2 merge is still clogged every morning, traffic heading eastbound.  Ft. Weaver Road with bumper to bumper traffic coming out in the morning and going in in the evenings.

Here is my opinion:
1- I currently have no use for the rail. BUT.....
2- I'm retired and getting older and there WILL come a day when I can't safely drive any more. (that includes ALL of you reading this)
3- The west side of Oahu is a rapidly growing area. It's dubbed the "Second City". Didn't you wonder why the thing started out in the middle of nowhere? Think 10-20 years from now.
4-There are probably people here on this forum who worked and fed their families from the rail project.
Our very own "Inspector" Dave worked on the rail. That's why he chose the name Inspector. It was his job.

to be continued...
I will probably not have a real reason to ride the rail, but I plan to make a reason to ride it just for fun. I did feel that the rail should be built from the very beginning and still do. You can't wait until you need a rail transit system and then build it, especially with the time it takes to build something in Hawaii  ::). Also, the company I work for has done a lot of projects for the many contractors and locals working on the rail project . . . from the beginning.

Math is hard.

It's how a $5.122B budget in 2012 ended up being $12.45B in 2022.

It's also how the entire system is now estimated to be completed and operational  in 2031, 11 years longer than promised in 2012.

1300? 3300?  What's a couple of digits in the grand scheme of things?

oops...
regardless the traffic was still the same on all days

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/07/11/city-says-it-undercounted-rail-ridership-first-5-days-full-fare-operations/

The city says it undercounted the number of Skyline riders during the first five days fares were not free.

From July 5 to 9, the city originally reported about 8,000 trips.

However, in its corrected count, city officials said ridership was actually more than 18,000 or about 3,600 per day.

I'm going to wait until the Rail goes all the way to KHSC and our government gives the ok to carry firearms on mass transit.

This past Saturday I had a birds eye view of the rail for several hours.
I could clearly see the number of passengers on each car.
On one trip I counted 2 adults on the entire train. Several times I could
not see anyone on it. (Maybe some small children were riding it.)

Maybe there will be more people on it on Sundays. Sunday is a good day
for the swap meet. It would be interesting to see the passenger count now
that the people have to pay to ride the rail.

Those are not small "misses."  To under report 18,000 as 8,000 is significant.  Are we to believe they can't type a "1" at the beginning?

Seems like the numbers are being fudged by someone at the top to make sure the state receives all the federal funding they can get.

i'd like to see an independent organization do a count by videoing the stations.  It would be easy to go back through the footage and verify the numbers arriving and departing during each stop.

smokes and mirrors by a government trying to put lipstick on a pig.

edited to add:  So after decades and billions of dollars (11?) this rail goes from east Kapolei to the Halawa Stadium area.

I fail to see any benefits for the user other than shopping?!!??  Swap meet?  Pearlridge Center?  Don Quiote?  Kamalii Shopping Center? (doubt this one)

Honestly open to input as to the benefits of this Rail in it's current configuration.  Of course in the future it will offer more useful options.  But of course at the cost of billions more dollars. ::) ::) ::)

The City had schemes for years i.e. Police Chief, Dep prosecutor, DPP....whack a mole
