It's been glaringly obvious for decades that the Liberal/Democrat/Socialist/Leftists are the science deniers.

How many times do their predictions have to be wrong before everyone tells them to STFU?

Al Gore was not available for comment.  He was flying to France in his private jet, or something like that.

it's getting worse because we didn't ban all cars and planes still run on gas...and we ban plastic straws but the bigger plastic component, the cups are still made up of plastic...plastic is the magic fairy dust that makes climate change

....
Not joking.
It's quite possible that a modified E-bike battery/charger may have started the fire. It's been happening on Oahu. RC car enthusiasts are very familiar with the dangers of lithium-ion batteries.

Poor infrastructure and land management is the cause. Same as in commifornia. Of course they need to deflect from the obvious. Need to cover ass for the criminal negligence being preformed with our tax dollars and electrical profiteering.

Speculation is the downed power poles and wires are one possible cause, though HECO hasn't said either way.

Given the amount of damage and the probability there's more than one flash point, we may never know unless there's video evidence that survived.

It could have been a surge on a downed line causing an EV charger to overload igniting the lithium batteries of an EV parked next to a gas line ....   :geekdanc:

I like the downed power lines theory.
It sounds most probable given the number of fires that were far apart.

I remember being surprised learning about how many different ways forest fires can get started. There are the common known ones but others less common. Sometimes even just a broken bottle can catch the sub just right creating a magnifying lens effect.

The downed power line possible seems to be very possible.

I theorize that the bad building codes allowed the flames to spread like wildfire. Being near the ocean, it would not be surprising if acetone and other accelerants were present in some homes. During the demolition process, FEMA should devote some funds to researching better ways to protect neighborhoods from massive, uncontrolled destruction. There are third world countries with better fire control / safety regulations on their books. State Farm, which is one of the biggest insurers in Hawaii, will probably put the hammer down on homeowners. Their underwriters are probably going to force new customers to pay for fire assessments on their homes. If the property does not meet current codes, the owner will have to self-insure. We have only to look at what insurance companies have done in Florida. The victims of any disaster are never confined to just the damaged community.

what does being near the ocean have anything to do with acetone?

I live very close to one of the fires in Kula. Many enormous trees, mostly Eucalyptus with shallow roots, toppled in the wind and dragged down the powerlines starting the fires. Some of these trees are 80 feet high and 5 foot dbh and weigh many thousands of pounds, blocking roads. The few firefighters that are here could not cover these blazes all over the place. I had to evacuate twice in the first big night, but we made it.

It might be nice to skip some of the conspiracies and political hate mongering on this issue.  A lot of people lost everything, and the community is doing the best we can to help each other out.

Glad you're okay, but the fact that you're calling dysfunctional government and/or industry a conspiracy theory is an even bigger dick move

They screwed up and people died. The public has a right to know what happened.
