Well, I'm not sure Mr. Young's lawsuit did any good at all for anyone.  We are already in the court of appeals above him (and further along) with my case challenging CCW. 

As far as the money goes, cities do have insurance policies for some of this (as far as I understand), so some judgments may come out of that policy.

  I just think if he didn't ask for $2M, there would have been a better chance of winning. Although the court could have just awarded him a CCW permit and no money if they wanted to.  Ah well. I do think if you have a real legitimate reason, l like a crazy violent ex stalking you and threatening you, one should be granted a CCW permit. At least for a certain amount of time like a drivers license and just gotta renew with your grounds. At least that would be the best for both liberals and conservatives.   And im sure most cities are self insured to a certain extent.

The Second Amendment is the real, legitimate reason for being issued a permit.  The system you describe is what Hawaii has now, it's just that none of Louis Kealoha's best good friends has found him- or herself in that situation, so they haven't issued any.

Re: money for damages.

Not much different that us having to pay a fine for speeding. We broke the law and got caught, we pay a fine. Nobody got hurt, we didn't cost anyone any money but we have to pay it anyway. Its not a direct cost to penalty ratio, its a severity of crime to penalty ratio.

And restricting a constitutional right is pretty serious. If he were to win.
