All those people in the news video turning in guns and giving comments.

So much for anonymity!

Would be awsome if hpd could auction them. They could make some money, we could score some deals, but that would make too much sense.

When the agenda of the state is to prevent as many as possible from having access to guns, "sense" is not a factor.

Quote
The Honolulu Police Department ran four gun buyback events between 1992 and 2000 which
were funded by the Housing and Urban Development Department, according to a 2018 attorney
general’s report.

A total of 1,498 firearms were collected and destroyed over the course of the four events, but
the report gave a tepid review of gun buybacks overall.

The guns recovered “typically are not the type used in the commission of a crime,” the report says.

This post was 8 years ago. A half million dollars wasted.
HPD destroyed their old service pistols including about 200 new-unused guns.
That is the mentality of this state.

good idea
I just sent this message:

RE: Destruction of a HALF MILLION dollars worth of taxpayer funded property is ludicrous. Specifically, I am referring to the destruction of the old HPD service pistols. Some of which are brand new and never used. As I understand it, they won't even be sold to HPD or law enforcement officers. Those old pistols are very safe and valuable well crafted all-steel pistols, not some cheap plastic thing like the current Glock replacements. I strongly urge you to consider the ramifications of destroying a half million dollars worth of publicly funded property.

Funny, yeah, how easy to waste other people's money, the very ones funding your paycheck.  HPD, in a way it's not your fault.  You are just in lockstep with idiot and uncaring lawmakers who happen to be your bosses.

Wait...so hpd was in line handing over guns as well?

That doesn't strike anyone else as possibly an awkward attempt to inflate the numbers?

Is the consensus that the buy back program is a bad thing?  I see it as good, especially because it’s an option and totally voluntary.  Transferring firearms to strangers might be a hassle to some.  My friends 88 yr old grandmother was left with some firearms.  She doesn’t know anything about guns and my friend didn’t want to get involved.  Sat in a safe for yrs.  I’d think something like this would be great for them????

The way gun buy backs are marketed makes it bad and anti 2a. Read my post above what Green said about it.  Even Komrade Karl said there is no evidence that buy backs help reduce anything.  And of the 2, Green has a much higher position than Komrade.

Ask yourself 2 things:  can the state really afford $90K to do a buyback?  The term "buyback" is a misnomer.  To buy a gun back, they would have had to have sold it.  It's basically a tax-payer-funded bribe to get guns turned into the state.

The other thing to ask is, who really benefits?  I think it's Cops.  They are less fearful of an unarmed populace.  The police department, which you help fund, has been on the frontlines supporting gun control laws every step of the way.

The buybacks don't do what's advertised:  get guns "off the streets."  They simply get guns out of grandma's closet and out of Kimo's trashcan so they can reap a little benefit from inherited or unsellable guns.  They bragged they took "ghost guns" in at the buyback.  Were those guns in the hands of criminals?  Or were they simply owned by law-abiding citizens with no intention of committing crimes who took advantage of the opportunity to get rid of a legal hot potato?

They are using our taxes to fund a program that benefits a few and doesn't do anything to stop "gun violence".  You tell me if that's a bad thing?

Oh, and although the state has been "awarded" a $97K grant by the feds to do this, (1) that's still tax payer funded, and (2) the state has yet to accept the grant.  I remember a few years ago the state forfeited a couple million in grant money for education, even though they spent years making changes to comply with the rules of the grant.

The state dropped the ball and failed to apply for the money!!  Don't be shocked if that happens again. "I was wondering why it was taking so long to see the grant money."

I think the consensus is that its a good thing but doesnt actually do much to stop criminals.

HPD is part of the problem of having illegal guns on the streets, theres crooked cops in there selling guns to family and friends. How I know this, a friend of mines asked me on a opinion about a gun he was buying and i asked where he getting it, he was buying it from a family member in the department that was going to sell it to him unregistered and everything. Goes to show how many of um are doing this for a long time.
