Israel loosens gun possession laws
« on: October 08, 2023, 11:18:33 AM »
Israel has very strict.gun laws which is perplexing given the constant warfare, terrorism, and being surrounded by anti-israeli nations that want to kill all of them.

To possess a gun there you need to go through many requirements and provide a valid reason for needing a firearm.  Just self defense isn't sufficient.

Once approved, Israelis can possess one pistol and up to 50 rounds of ammo.  Or a long gun based on the purpose such as Olympic shooting, hunting, etc.

They loosened their laws a tad today.

Today I directed the Firearms Licensing Division to go on an emergency operation, in order to allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves.

The plan will take effect within 24 hours, below are its main points:

1. Any citizen who meets the detailed tests for carrying a private firearm due to self-defense and serving the security forces, and is without a criminal or medical record, will be required to undergo a telephone interview instead of a physical interview, and will be able to receive permission to carry a firearm within a week.

(Self-defense tests: residence in an eligible settlement, rifle veterans 07 and above, officers in the rank of lieutenant and above and combatants in the rank of major and above in the IDF and the security forces, service in special units, firefighters, policemen, and workers and volunteers in the rescue forces).

2. Any citizen who received a conditional permit to purchase a firearm and did not purchase a firearm during the year 2023 and the conditional license has expired, will be able to purchase a firearm now without the need to submit another application. The exemption will apply to about 4000 citizens.

3. Any citizen who deposited his weapon in the last six months due to failure to perform refresher training or renewal training, will be able to receive his weapon back. The exemption will apply to about 1800 citizens.

4. In addition, starting next Tuesday, conditional permits to carry firearms will be issued with a permit allowing the purchase of up to 100 bullets instead of 50 today.

All this in addition to the criteria change that should happen soon.

I thank the members of the Firearms Licensing Division, the Civil Response Department of the Israel Police and the employees of the Ministry of Health for the very important commitment that will allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves and protect themselves and their environment when necessary.

Definitely a step in the right direction, but a day late and a dollar short for those unfortunate Israelis that got rolled up by Hamas already.   :(

it makes you wonder what sort of reforms we will get here once those terrorist cells that Biden is letting across the border start to activate

Same like the Border Wall.  Biden will look like a fool.  Again.

The sad part is there are citizens anxious to exercise their 2a rights but are currently restricted to do so.  Sad if they become a victim like those poor Israeli citizens.

Hopefully after this they will get a 2nd ammendment law.  So many tall buildings,  a few armed people could have taken out hundreds.  The terrorists were walking on the street unprotected.

No the terrorists were armed

Armed with ak47s with irons.  Someone with even a hunting rifle and scope on a tall building with good view has an overwhelming advantage.  Saw a video of people recording a bunch of terrorists on the street from a tall building at decent distance and they didn't even notice.

That's remarkable analysis. You must have extensive counter terrorism operational experience.

We have seen 2 countries who were invaded by armed personnel (Russia/Hamas).  Each country doesn't have a 2A.  We saw pretty quickly how each wanted to arm more people.

I mean, I don't see the US being invaded by an armed force for the DNC to backtrack their stance on the 2A, so this will never happen in the US.  Notice I said "armed force", because we are being invaded by an unarmed force at the southern border.

With relation to the unarmed invasion, look at Germany, citizens were buying medevil weaponry because they have no 2A either to protect themselves from the invaders. No-Go zones all over the UK.

The country closest to the US in the right to keep and bear arms is the Czech Republic.  They have a similar history of individual firearms ownership along with historic turmoil with invasions being invaded by Germany and Russia.  Their firearm laws are a little more restrictive than Hawaii's and they have shall issue CCW and are able to own semiautomatic rifles.  This is the only nation in Europe with this right written in the constitution, and perhaps the only developed nation in the world aside from the US.

"the right to defend own life or life of another person also with arms is guaranteed under conditions set out in the law."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in_the_Czech_Republic

Switzerland is 3rd for gun rights as they have a long-standing firearms culture, with a requirement for gun ownership for militia service.  However many of their laws are "may issue", there are more restrictions, and it's difficult to obtain a CCW permit.  "The right to acquire, possess and carry arms is guaranteed in the framework of this law."

I'm quite surprised learning here that Israel is pretty strict with private gun ownership.

Is it true that IDF members take their weapons home with them?  Also all able bodied men are in the reserves all the way up to age 55.

A small nation of under 10 million people, surrounded by Jew hating Arab countries, the Israelis truly are bad ass.

The kids of the US could learn a thing or two from the Israelis.

But yeah, good idea to relax the restrictions for gun ownership for private citizens.

Realistically, it takes more than a couple of HDF range days to stay sharp.
That's why I try to go weekly, if possible.
Especially when you get older and your body starts to deteriorate.

Not everyone takes or carriers their rifle with them. It depends on the unit.  This is for males and females.  THere was a recent pic at a Egyptian type museum and had about 6 female students in plain clothes with their rifles (M4/16) slung while looking at the exhibit.  I found it weird that no males had rifles.  So I asked my friend who's from there and former IDF and he said all those women in that class were probably in the same unit.  Then I asked him about the bikini's and rifles slung at the beach and he said, although not against the rules, those women probably got chewed out for making the IDF look bad by their command if command saw the pics. They shouldn't have went to the beach while required at that time to carry their rifle.

Saw a social media post that an Israeli officer who had guns in the home defending his home against the invaders. Unfortunately, he and his wife were killed, but he took 7 invaders with him.  His children who were hiding survived. So a 7:2 ratio. Unknown if the wife was fighting as well.  Imagine if his neighbors were armed and engaged as well those invaders who were outside the home.  This relates to my prior post about condo's and rifles instead of camera phones.
