I'm thinking we have a BOT.

Uses a number in its handle (typical for auto-naming of BOTs),
registered as a user here today, and
only 2 posts -- both incoherent nonsense.

It's a guess, but i'm usually right in these matters!   :geekdanc:

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

YG posted it on their IG account. Bascially HPD called them to tell them 1/1/24; everyone needs to redo their classes.

But even without HPD calling, if you read SB1230 CD1, it states the additional requirement and instructor must be approved by HPD. So just having an NRA credential is no longer automatic, but HPD will have to actually look at it and probably your course curriculum and then give permission.  This is what they did for CCW instructors, the curriculum and exam with answer key had to be submitted to them.

Ah that makes sense, thanks. So they were the ones doing classes and telling students that they would be good even after the Jan 1st changes. I wonder if they will be giving free redos?

IDK if the instructors were telling the students this as well, or if it was just the social media telling this.

Well this is good news to all those who teach the gun courses, repeat customers!

However the idiocy of saying someone can keep the guns they own but can't have new ones unless they take a new course every 4 years?

I wonder if there is some background check portion that is the main thrust for the renewal part.

The guidance I gave to the firearms instructors in Hawaii is each police depart will need to change their own policies to comply with sb1230.  There is the possibility you can teach the required content now and it could be valid next year or do an additional on class later for the missing material.  But the police departments policy determines what is accepted and what is not.

I got the implementation date of sb1230 pushed back to Jan 1 2024 so police departments and gun community have time to work on the policies and get the word out without an interruption of service.

My other guidance to instructors and gun community is to buy your guns this year.

Have any instructors approached their respective chiefs of police with a new curriculum yet to try to get approved?
