I'll talk to HPD about it on Friday since it was my lawsuit.  I understand it's the holidays and don't want to be a grinch, but they should at least get the word out ahead of time if they're going to do this.

This is hpds problem, no one should have to talk to them.

I talked to the SGT at HPD and explained the Wednesday incident.  He wasn't there at the time and not aware there was an incident, and will bring it up the chain.

I asked that they send out a notice ahead of time if they do it again, and for an apology to the 15 people affected.

It should be a rare occurrence, probably every thanksgiving, and some major holidays depending when it falls.

The line at the permit window is just ridiculous. Put 45 min in the parking meter stood in line for 20 min and only one guy got served. Had 6 people in front of me so I figured would run out of time and just left.

Are long waits a common thing?  I'm going to arrange a meeting with the firearms section to see what they have planned for Jan 1st.  The new permits will require more manpower to process.

I wouldnt consider 20 mins a long wait. If you dont have all your paperwork in order or have to ask any questions, 20 mins is pretty normal. 6 people in line also, probably not too far out of the ordinary. If anything I think the jan 1st changes could be increasing the volume of applicants. Just last week I had two friends who called and asked about the details of the Jan 1st changes.

20 min for one person not a long wait?

I’m not sure I have bought enough guns to accurately say if it’s a common thing. However there were 6 people in front of me and even if it took 10 min per person that 6th guy would’ve waited an hour until getting served. Not sure if people consider that long or not.

Im usually in and out of there with no problems and still takes like 5-10 minutes. If you are doing multiple firearms you need to fill out a full set of forms and write on a carbon copy for each permit, so 1 for each hand gun and 1 for long gun. You do one or two hand guns and heck while im here might as well do long gun too, thats 20 mins garantee.

I think a lot of guys are new or lazy and have issues with their forms or have to ask a lot of questions. Then theres CCW, which im sure has more forms, but I dont know for sure how long one of those takes.

i don't care if it's a "rare occurrence"
a settlement is a settlement...

I didn't say it to be hostile.

What is your plan?  If you had to take care of it, what would you do to fix it?

As for me, it's pretty far down the list of a long list of priorities.

Zippz, thank you for talking to hpd about this kind of stuff. pay no attention to people who make useless negative comments, just chalk it up to them venting.

Aloha bradda Zippz

First of all,  Mahalo for speaking with HPD about the incident that happened.

What concerns me about your conversation with the SGT there is that he was unaware of the incident. So that would make it seem that either the officers there knew and didn't care (and not say anything less they get in trouble etc) or were uninformed?

I remember reading something about officers possibly being placed there for disciplinary action. If that is the case then maybe they may not know the settlement rules etc. I honestly don't know just thinking out loud. Maybe, having HPD place a notice or some other type of notification in a place easily observable to the officers reminding them of that rule/advance notice required for certain situations etc

That may or may not help the situation(s) but either way. I'd like to thank you for what you do to defend 2A in Hawai'i Nei

Aloha
