Here's a knife I found on the ground one day.

Not too bad. Blade is a little thin & feels kinda flimsy. But pretty good for a free knife.


My EDC

Yes, it's an automatic. I know. I LOVE this knife. Has a little weight on it & feels very sturdy. Had this for about 8 years now & the action on it still is very crisp.
I can trust this knife to get me out of some shit if I needed her to.

Italian Stiletto's are readily available but unfortunately illegal to possess in Hawaii, so you will have to settle for the comb blade.

A knife that has completely taken me by surprise is the CETME bayonet.



I got one with my CETME and figured I just throw in in the closet... but read somewhere that the Spanish bayonets were actually made with excellent steel that can hold an edge unlike most bayonets. So I got out the file and sharpeners...

Holy cow. The thing is a beast. Easily works as a machete, handles light duty axe type jobs, you can choke up on it for some fairly fine wood carving... and throw it on the rifle for a banzai charge. What's not to like? They are dirt cheap, too. That pic comes from a site selling them for $13.

It's a nice EDC, I was issued one like it in the military but you might want to reconsider it as a EDC. If LE catches you with it it will be seized and you will be charged with a misdemeanor, as it is illegal to possess in hawaii. I would hate for you to lose a $300 knife.

Noticed that too when I viewed the pics. Sad but in Hawaii so many weapons are restricted or outright illegal to possess.

those stilettos kinda suck imho. refurbed two for a friend. theres a mexican copy and an italian one. the mexican one was ridiculously poorly made and the italian looked like modern $15 chinese knives quality. the italians are worth about 80-100

that benchmade is nice, but i dont see the point of illegally carrying a side folding auto when you can get a legal assisted opening knife like a kershaw/zerotolerance or crkt and camillus knives that open n close just as fast.
out the front autos are a different animal and i could see why someone would want those.


ive been dropping all my hobby money on firearms instead of knives the past year, but i did pick up a grab n' stab from KGS a couple months back and scored another kershaw tilt recently also. smoothest knife EVER.

Oh forgot to mention if youre a diehard benchmade fan their assisted knives only come with thumbstuds and no flipper which sucks. (ala the 581 barrage)
BUT you can manipulate an axis lock knife to open and close extremely quickly. i dont recommend all the extra fancy balisong/butterfly style maneuvers but a simple flick open and closed while holding the axis lock is pretty handy. the guy in the video does the simple flick open once or twice during the video between tricks. i own a bm940 and only open and close it this way.

i know, that's what sucks about it. i got it from my supply sergeant when they deployed to kandahar. i keep it clipped on my pocket with the clip facing out trying to keep the button as concealed as possible.

question:
if i am minding my own business with my EDC clipped as shown, can the most prickest cop still search me?

I don't think u can be searched unless the cop has a reasonable suspicion that you have committed a crime.

i belt sand convexed the edge because the angles were too obtuse and offcenter. ontario doesnt ship their machetes with the best edges for the price. condor got em beat in that department.
the sp8 is nasty. 1/4" thick. pretty sure you can pry a door off its hinges with this bad boy.

Agree...even the Italian Stiletto's were made cheaply in my opinion. The reason someone would want one of these today is purely from a collector standpoint and certainly not for modern defense. When you think about it from a historian or collector standpoint, it was this very knife that started the whole automatic knife craze, and also the knife responsible for the ban on automatic knives, making them illegal to import from Italy. Of course they are illegal in Hawaii, so it's a moot point, but that is generally the primary reason someone would own one, other than the fact they look cool. JMHO

MAY he?  No.

CAN he?  What he thinks is the limit.

If he decides do give you a pat-down, whether or not he should've in the first place, the knife will definitely be taken away.  Yeah, you might be able to beat the misdemeanor in court if you refused searches and the judge decides it indeed WAS an illegal search, but they're NOT going to give you the knife back.

OK, devils advocate here, since we are "what iffing" things.....

What if, you run into a cop who is big into knives?  Since we are "what iffing", maybe that cop is even noted by the courts as a use of force, arrest and control, intermediate and various weapons subject matter expert.  So back to the "what if's"...  What if that Officer could clearly explain to the courts that he "observed" the knife "in plain view" clipped within the subjects pocket.  What if that same Officer could explain what gave him probable cause?

Officer:  "Well your honor that is a Benchmade AFO automatic opening knife.  It would have either been the AFO or AFOII with either a drop point or tanto blade, either serrated or non-serrated.  In any of these instances the Benchmade knife in any of these configurations is an automatic opening knife."

Judge:  "Officer how did you know it was a Benchmade knife?"

Officer:  "Well your honor first off the engraved "Benchmade USA" moniker was clearly visible on the clip of the knife"  Second the knife had the telltale characteristics of the Benchmade AFO series of auto knives."

Judge:  "So you are saying that you knew immediately that it was a Benchmade AFO automatic opening series of knives?  Can you describe some of these characteristics?"

Officer:  "Sure your honor.  The body of the knife appeared to be a metallic type which has a finish that matches that particular model of Benchmade knife.  It is actually 6061 T6 aluminum and is black anodized.  This is the same or similar materials and anodizing process used on the receivers of the M16 Assault Rifle and other similar variants of that evil black rifle weapon platform."

Judge:  "Are there any other characteristics that identify this particular model of knife?"

Officer:  "Why yes your honor.  The knife body or the handle of the knife that was visible had the classic Benchmade shape for the AFO series of knives that has a very rounded or spherical sweep from the rear handle horn or posterior curve of the thumb ramp to the handles interior guard.  From there it sweeps into the finger support notch of the knife which is located to the interior of the knives handle where the blade enters into the knife body when closed.  While there are other Benchmade knives that are similar, this particular shape and design is specific to the AFO series of automatic knives.  Also there was the cam or blade pivot pin which is a large robust design by Benchmade located in the correct spot and size for this knife.  I will also note that the knife clip is classic Benchmade design held with 3 allen head screws.  This knife was inserted inside the pocket whereas the top side of the knife was facing up and the bottom or butt end of the knife was facing downward."

Judge:  "Officer, how were you sure of the orientation of the knife?"

Officer:  "The knifes clip is a removable and adjustable clip.  It was set in the typical configuration from Benchmade where the knife sits in the describe orientation.  The user can adjust the clip in 4 different positions to suit their needs." 

Judge:  "Officer are there any other reasons that made you feel that this was a Benchmade AFO automatic knife?

Officer:  "Well yes your honor, it actually looks exactly like mine right here, [Opens automatic knife in dramatic fashion] except mine is a tanto blade."

Perhaps this story is a bit unlikely of you running into that one Officer, as it would be the "perfect storm", but it does illustrate the fact that anything is possible and that taking advice on the internet might not keep your butt out of jail.  But then again if that cop was a "knife guy", he might just say, hey cool knife, I got one too.   
 

 

Actually the Benchmade AFO clip is held in place with 3 T-6 Torx head screws. The clip was repositioned in an "evil-er" way where the user would be able to draw the knife from his pocket and deploy the blade even quicker, allowing him to do evil things with it faster.

Ah yes, T-6 torx.  BTW, nice knife, I got one too, except mine has a tanto blade.
