Last night I had sweet sour pig feet that my wife made. Actually we use the hocks, get more meat.

That is one of my favorites, along with short rib stew.  Short ribs are so expensive, a pot can easily run $60.

Another thing I noticed is Costco meat quality is not good now.  I buy my meat from Sam's Club whenever I go to Oahu.

I do not like the taste of grass fed beef, so I stay away from home grown meat.

I love eating pig feet and short rib stew.

I'm a "soup" person.  I like stews, soups, braised meats, chowders, and "ramen" type meals.

And I also love curry type foods.  All kinds.

Pig feet I make every once in a while.  It tends to trigger my gout when I eat too much of it. :(

Foods that used to be cheap are like gourmet prices now.  Oxtails could be given away 30 years ago but now it commands prices just like filet mignon.

What cracks me up nowadays is Ahi/Aku bones.  Small kid time we used to go to the supermarket and we could buy a whole bunch of them for 25 cents.  We used them for crab bait in our nets.

Now when I see the prices for them in the market I sh*t my pants.  Laughing.

I feel like making pig feet soup tonight.  Okinawan style. :shaka:

I have this dehydrating right now. It is sakura boshi made from fresh ahi dark meat.
Nobody wants the dark meat, so the store practically gives it away. I got this on special for about $1 per lb.

Sakura boshi is basically teriyaki fish jerky. My mom would buy sakura boshi from the fish market in Wailuku (Maui).

The style I make is semi-dry, so it needs to be cooked a little before eating. But it only takes about 3 minutes in the toaster oven.
So ono with poi.

Oven roasted pork shoulder with dry rub. It was on sale last week at Costco and the expiration is up today. Was going to go all fancy with Dijon mustard but ran out of time.

Just got back from the range and I'm beat.
I had leftover Hwn style beef stew.  Mixed it with leftover tuna casserole from Friday.

I made the beef stew on Thursday but tried not to eat meat on Friday.
The tuna casserole was me trying to use up old can foods in the closet. Also, Friday was supposed to be meatless.
I used a box of mac and cheese and canned tuna with cream of mushroom soup and frozen veggies.

Cooking is one of my hobbies. My mom was a good cook that made some local history.
My daughter is now a pastry chef....not good for dad. :-\

I got a hunk of ribs screaming for attention. The plan is to parboil them, use Sweet Baby Ray's sauce and smoke n grill over kiawe charcoal. I save the water and some of the pork to make pork watercress soup. I got the watercress growing in my yard!

Every once in a while I would treat myself to pork watercress soup.  I say treat because watercress is expensive in the supermarket.

Used to be almost $4 a bunch a while back but now it's like $7 a bunch.  I caved and bought a bunch and made pork watercress soup.

Came out great and I had it several times as leftovers since it made so much. :shaka:

My old coworker gave me a big pile of taro leaves so I've been making laulau for the past 2 days. It was a lot of work but the price was right. I went easy on the salt and fat to be healthy but it ain't the same. So I use a lot of chili peppa wata fo' givum taste. The same guy gave me hawaiian chili peppers so I also made a new batch of chili pepper water too.

Jambalaya made with chicken, shrimp, sausage, and I threw in some sweet potato leaves harvested from my yard. They cook down like spinach and adds nutrients to the pot. I am learning from my Filipino neighbors.

I'm going to make char siu with the final pieces of Costco pork belly I bought.  Really liked the way Costco cut and packaged the pork belly.  At home I separated the pork belly into individual freezer bags.

So far I've made pork watercress soup, pork adobo, pork tofu, and slow braised pork belly in Yoshida's sauce.

All of them broke mout.  Tonight char siu pork on a bed of romaine lettuce served with dirty rice.

And tomorrow?  I dunno.  Refrigerater is empty. :(

Gotta go store again.
