AR15 flash hiders what are you running
« on: June 16, 2024, 04:42:55 PM »
I never found anything as cost effective as the standard A2 FH. Last time I had anything other than an A2 was a Smith Vortex and Yankee Hill. Was it worth the extra $$$. I don't know I didn't have NVGs then.

I'm a fan of the AAC Blackout flash hiders.

Virtually eliminates the flash even on short barrel rifles.

The 3-prong design can be oriented in any direction unlike the standard birdcage design that needs to have the closed side down to prevent the muzzle blast from kicking up dirt when prone.  Makes device installation easier without the need to use crush washers.

You can also get them with suppressor threads so you can mount one over the flash hider -- great for use with a .300 Blackout SBR.

Check out YT videos to see how well the flash is hidden compared to other designs;

Do you value a flash hider over a muzzle break?

I stuck with using the birdcages as they're cheap and better ones aren't much better.  A minor nitpick with prongs is just another thing to snag on something.  Making it comparable with suppressors is a good feature tho.

I would think the 3 prong would still have to be positioned with the closed side on the bottom.

I have a few guns with PA AFAB, as well as A2.  I've had guns with BattleComp 1.0 and 2.0, PWS, and BCM.

I've shot next to the Lantac Dragon and that sucker was a fireball thrower, at least on the guy's specific gun.  Not sure if something was wrong with that upper, but it often malfunctioned with the Lantac and was fine when switching to another device.

If anyone wants A2s, I think have a few takeoffs lying around.

Not according to the instructions.

For competitions on intermediate caliber guns, muzzle brakes rule.

However for real life uses, flash hider.  Not just for the flash suppression, but to avoid the muzzle blast in enclosed spaces and along walls.  Most important of all is to not piss off shooters next to you at the range

I never thought about this. I thought it was more about recoil control.

I have the surefire Warcomp. I have no complaints but I haven't shot that many different ones to compare it to. Adds a bit of length over the standard A2

With muzzle devices it either hides flash or mitigates recoil

I have a VG Epsilon on an AK.  I've read good things about VG devices, but I can't say I've noticed much with the AK.
