Registration question
« on: July 08, 2024, 09:18:57 AM »
Aloha. It's been sometime that I have been on here, my bad. We are trying to get my wife registered to my firearms so that she and I can complete the ccw course and testing. It came to my attention that her intro class is invalid and she will need to take it again. It made me question mine and I too will need to take it again as well. What and when did this all happen? Being out of the loop is not a good plan I'll be checking back here more often to stay up on things. :shaka:

This happened when they change the law that took effect this year.  This is why it's important to pay attention to legislative things. I post when testimonies are due.

If you didn't take your handgun safety class this year, you will have to retake it.

FYI, they passed the sensitive places law also, which made it illegal to CCW anywhere but the public sidewalk. Luckily, HIFICO sued HI and there's a pending hearing and an injunction on parts of the sensitive places law.

To add your wife to your registration, she will have to go thru the permit to acquire process, which means she has to take the new handgun class.

Thanks for the updates. I wasn't aware. I did know the sensitive places issue and isn't the something along the lines of, if  there is not a sign that says 'allowed' its not. Clever tactic by our legislators; not praising by any means. We are signed up for into to firearms class with Hawaii Tactical in a few weekends.

It's an automatic ban everywhere commercial or private residence unless you get permission to CCW. A sign is acceptable, so is an email or verbal. "Express consent" is the term.  But due to the injunction, the automatic ban on commercial places is on hold.  Which means you can carry, unless they have the city approved sign that says no guns allowed.

Go look at the post about SB3196. That was the huge Fuuuuuuckkkkkkk Youuuuuu to Bruen that HI created. It's not only sensitive places, but new permit to acquire and other stuff too.

Costs lots of money now to exercise your 2a rights in Hawaii.

Our asshat leadership fail to understand or refuse to acknowledge that there are some demographics that are deeply affected by the expense of firearm ownership.

Senior citizens with fixed incomes, the very ones that are most vulnerable to criminals are affected by these stupid laws.

But our lawmakers don't care.  They have their security detail so why should they.

FIFY

They count on people not being able to afford guns, training, ammo, etc.

That's why they tried tacking on exorbitant taxes to guns and ammo.  The problem with that particular scheme is you only pay it at initial purchase time.  Transfers after that don't carry the tax burden.  Creates a more lucrative and active secondhand market.

When they passed the ban on Saturday Night Specials in the GCA 1968, it was intended to stop the sale of small, inexpensive handguns because the guns predominantly wound up owned by Blacks and others of limited financial means.  The logic told them if they banned the cheap guns, only more financially secure people (not as many blacks) could afford handguns.  They never seem to grasp that theft, black market and secondhand sales sidestep those laws.

In OK, they raised the cost of registering a brand new vehicle so high, people either stuck to buying and keeping older vehicles longer, or driving around with temp plates for years figuring the cost of a ticket was more than offset by the super-high registration costs.

So, making something more expensive simply causes those unable to afford it to find other ways of getting what they want.

Has anyone on here ever been asked by anyone in law enforcement to see your firearm registration aside from doing a transfer at the police station or by a buyer needing to apply for a permit?  Just curious.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

If I ever was asked aside from what you mentioned, I'd tell them no.
