I'm so curious as to what kind of weapon of mass destruction he got convicted for.

Front Loader?

Routh pleaded guilty to possession of an unregistered fully automatic gun, which is defined in North Carolina law as a weapon of mass destruction and is a felony punishable by up to 59 months prison, according to the county district attorney's office and the Guilford County Superior Court's clerk office.

So, shut up about his 2A rights.  Leave it to you to argue he has a constitutional right to shoot a rifle into a golf course.

There is no proof he was pointing the rifle. Are you convicting him before trial? Maybe he is just an innocent person being persecuted by the corrupt DOJ? You always say government is corrupt and not to be trusted.

He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number and neither charge has yet been proven to be true.

So you support regulation that would:

1. Make it illegal for a felon to possess firearms
2. Make it illegal to possess a firearm without a serial number

That's a start. I think I would also agree to those restrictions.

well, you looked up part of it
then you know he was a convicted felon and not allowed to possess firearms
so you should have guessed that we support the 2a here and open carry, but not for disallowed peeps...

Even if the felony was for owning an illegal firearm? What firearms do you think should be illegal?

Are you convicting the Secret Service of attempted murder for shooting at a man who was not pointing his gun in an illegal fashion -- all before a trial?

We already know what he was convicted of having -- an automatic firearm.

He's allowed to have it as long as it was acquired legally and the state doesn't prohibit it.

He lived in Hawaii, so we all know the answer:  NFA items are forbidden to possess here.

Was the firearm manufactured or imported prior to the full auto ban?

Did he apply for and receive a tax stamp for owning an NFA controlled item?

Full autos are legal to own at the federal level if you follow the law.  Asking what firearms should be banned is a deflection of the true facts.

What did he do wrong? Do you support the 2A? He was practicing open carry on public property right? Did he break the law or was he just minding his own business and was fired upon?

The way most here criticize Hawaii Laws, I'm surprised more people aren't supporting his right to open carry.

Maybe this is incident is a reason that we should not allow open carry anywhere and need to have some regulations and restrictions. You might blame Florida's lax gun laws for this incident.

Are you being a wise guy or something?  There's a difference between 2a rights and behaving in a criminal manner.

What do you mean minding his own business until fired upon?  What kind of business do you think he had in mind, hiding in the bushes with a rifle and 2 backpacks with ballistic stopping material?

One source said he fired 4 or 5 rounds before the SS fired at him.  Minding his own business?

It's evident where you stand on 2a rights with your "comment".  Sarcastic troll.

I find it interesting that Hater only talks about the 2A on here when trying to use it against us law abiding gun owners.

He believes defending an obvious criminal's right to have and publicly carry firearms is what 2A supporters think.

If he doesn't believe that, then he's just trolling, like you said.

We are law abiding gun owners, even if we don't agree with the law.  So you're statement about him being convicted of owning a machine gun is irrelevant.

The pic looks like a SKS with an AK type 30rd mag. I didn't see a pistol grip on the rifle.

Yup it's an SKS just look at the position of the magazine.  Too far from the trigger housing unlike an AK.  They called it an AK so that they can make their push to ban assault weapons.

it's been confirmed by the arfcom hive that it's an SKS, aftermarket stock kit.  that makes it the gospel truth, since it's the internet.

Rhyder does have a point.  It is currently illegal for him to possess firearms, but those will be found unconstitutional in the future so I wouldn't push that too hard.

He could be charged with attempted murder/assassination even though he didn't shoot.  Based on the equipment he has, past statements, and setting up his position with rifle at the ready.  This might be challenging to prosecute.  Or he might have pointed the rifle at the SS agents.  Orhe could have violated laws if he purchased the rifle on the mainland.  Or conspiracy if he had an accomplice.  Also violating state laws.

It's not the equipment, it's the person behind it.

I'm more concerned with why they're not catching these attempts ahead of time.  Both attempts seem to be done by low skill idiots with equipment that is not optimal.  Red dot scope on the first attempt.  SKS on the 2nd.

And the 2nd shooter was there for 12 hours.  The SS agents didn't screen the area prior?  Doesn't the golf course have security that checks the former Presiden'ts property?  Does Trump have his own private security detail considering many other high level CEO's spend millions each year on it?  The gardener and maintenance crew didn't notice?

Imagine what a professional assassin could do.

Bottom line Secret Service is not afforded the resources that a sitting president will have.

biden wants full blown protection for Trump now.  Maybe this will improve things because I think Secret Service cannot make this decision.  Recommendations probably, but not the decision.

But yeah, it is quite strange that someone could be camping out for 12 hrs. and not noticed by golf course maintenance, security, etc.

I thought the shooter actually fired off some shots but I guess he didn't.  Initial reports claimed he did.

Yeah, that definitely will change how they bring up charges.

saw a story that said that the treeline is often used by news crews and paparazzi trying to take pictures of trump
don't know why someone wasn't posted there or drones weren't being used...

Might be an inside job.  Trump golfs there often, but not every day.  Did the shooter know to just wait or was he told that Trump would be there that day? Being within 500 yards and having the scope he has, its def a do-able shot. Luckily, he didn't have a line of sight yet. So at least someone screened the holes ahead for threats.

Things like this have never before happened to a candidate.  I wonder if the SS will change their protocols now for assigning protection.

CIA comes to my mind.  The other alphabet agencies are just soldiers, though they have also been weaponized to some degree or other.
