Hey, don't you be knocking my Hostess Sno-balls.
You'll still be able to buy those. I just wish/hope they do something to balance to consumer cost of more healthy choices with the unhealthy ones.
Why does it cost more to buy a canned good with the salt NOT ADDED than one that contains added salt? I realize companies will just raise the prices of the less healthy versions rather than lower any prices to match, But, the market still dictates which brands they prefer. Five or ten cents less for one healthy choice will cause the others to adjust prices to compete -- all things being equal.
Right now, they are basically taking advantage of anyone trying to eat more healthy or have different dietary restrictions like hypertension or diabetes.
Hopefully they set up an online suggestion box so these kinds of ideas get consideration.
I'd like for someone to make 2 trips to a supermarket. In one, get the standard things people buy -- the cheaper selections. Then take the same items but make them the healthier choices. Find the items with less added salt and sugar, healthier sweetener alternatives, less "bad" fat, lower calorie or sugar-free versions, etc. Compare the cost of each buggy, and see whether it's significantly more expensive to select the healthier buggy.
