It is a real distinction, a lie is different than a broken promise if someone genuinely changed their mind but it is also a distinction without a difference.
I did hear on the radio that there were reports that this was Biden's plan all along though in which case it would definitely be a lie. I figured he would probably end up pardoning his son. What is sad are the democrats who praised him for refusing to pardon his son to now justifying the pardon. I am glad to hear a fair number on the left absolutely blasting Biden for this though, at lest for them these were actual values and not values of convenience. This just give Trump more ammo if he decides to perform unethical pardons.
Joe has a long history of lying and plageuarism. He continued to spout the Trump-Charlottesville lie publicly before he was forced out of the 2024 race. The truth about the actual comments Trump made are readily available on the Internet. Even Snopes labeled it 100% false even though it took them 7 years to get around to it. Was Joe not lying? Or did he really believe that's what Trump said? Does it matter?
He also promised to forgive student loan debt without giving anyone the chances of that action passing constitutional muster. Turns out that was a lie as well, just to buy votes from people in debt.
At his age and level of competence, maybe he believes whatever he wants as opposed to knowing he's lying. If so, why was he allowed to remain in office the entire term? How low do you want to set the bar for Joe when it seems you want Trump to be held the the highest standard ever?
You can give Joe the benefit of the doubt if you want -- as you do often just to be contrary here. But if you look back at these threads, most of us predicted this would be the case long ago.
Making a promise he intended to keep because he trusted the justice system (his words), and then doing a 180 means what? His own Department of Justice can no longer be trusted to apply the law fairly and evenly? Right. That's the only logical take-away from what he said before and why he said he granted the pardon.
