How many inches you got?
« on: March 20, 2026, 09:55:30 PM »
With last week's kona low, my gauge registered ~12-13in of rain between Friday and Sunday; about 3in on Friday, 9-10in on Saturday.

With this second storm, I'm almost at 10-11in since Wednesday night/Thursday early morning.

Currently dealing with somewhat bad flood damage and removing a couple hundred sqft of carpet and tearing down walls. From what I've been told, there was so much hydrostatic pressure in my area that water basically pushed up through the unsealed foundation and cold joints like a spring.

Rather personal question, don't ya think ?
Had 14" in the back hallway (Rockette was not happy with it at all. )

I woke up to the sound of "bump in the night" around 1 am Friday which ended up being things falling off the shelves.
Turned off the downstairs breakers and jumped in the save shop vacs, batteries and all other electrical devices and then started pulling food stores from lower shelves and placing them higher.
Mostly one gallon containers on lower shelves like bleach, vinegar and cooking oils.
Moved all upstairs till this blows over.

After clean up, freezer was still good (after literally floating), dryer did not fire up, washing machine questionable, 2 lawnmowers submerged and will be working on Jacuzzi pump motors today.
Ironically, the power stayed on

My niece by the temple got about 5 inches in their house.

Clocked a total of +15in over night. The east side of my home is now completely flooded. Spent the past 10 hours pumping and shop vacuuming, but the water infiltration is relentless. I think I've moved over 1000gal at this point and it looks like it didn't even make a dent. Really hoping insurance company doesn't screw me on this one.

Solid 3" here..   Some say it's the most inches Waikele has ever seen  ; ;)

Seeing all the flooding made me pretty grateful to have our house on a hill

Thanks for posting that Rocky.

My wife and I can both feel it when they are spraying and cranking up the microwaves.

Both of us felt horrible last week but I was wondering how they were spraying with all the disturbed wind patterns which basically makes it impossible to direct the impacts.

The theory in that video seems quite plausible.

Me and sonny boy took a truck load of cleaning supplies, buckets, bags, clothes etc up to Waikele the other day. Man how the community (and some from other community's) have pulled together in a coordinated effort. Our government should work so well.

On another note, Got a washer that  got flooded that fills and drains but does not agitate/spin?  Sometimes all it needs is the motor capacitor located behind control panel replaced.
Remove the hex head screws on each side of the back of control panel, pull panel back and tilt up. Capacitor located on right side mounted to washer.

Mine was bad (I did not test cuz I already knew from symptom) and I replaced it for $33.50 which is cheaper than replacing washer for $650.
You can test yours with most Fluke or similar by discharging cap and test farads (google if you do not know how). Beware, capacitor may still be holding electrical charge before discharging but if the above symptoms are there, it's probably the cap
I bought several and I have one more brand new capacitor this size in Laie, $33.50.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2026/04/01/new-data-shows-march-storms-dumped-over-2-trillion-gallons-rain-over-hawaii/

Lived here my whole life and this has never happened in my lifetime, nor in my elders' lifetimes. Closest experience to this was that 40 days of rain many years ago and it wasn't even a fraction of what the rain was this time around.
