Thank our Attorneys Alan and Kevin Aug 1 KHSC
« on: July 27, 2026, 07:12:12 PM »
Our attorney's Alan Beck and Kevin Ogrady will be visiting KHSC on August 1st 12pm to 3pm to shoot guns and see people.  Please come by and thank them for saving our 2A rights in Hawaii - CCW, sensitive places, firearms denials, legalizing swords and other weapon carry, tazers, medical marijuana, and lots of other wins alongside the future overturning of magazine bans and firearms possession for under 21.  Bring small gifts for them or have them shoot your gun when they come by.

They're going around the range at 12pm and will be at the silhouette range shooting from around 1pm.

Surprised theres no comments for this post, considering these two people saved the 2nd Amendent in Hawaii with 30 2a lawsuits and settlements in the past decade and winning at the US Supreme Court.

Wish I could attend but have to work. Is there another way to express appreciation?

Small personal gifts mean a lot.  Photos practicing 2A rights - shooting at the range, carrying a knife, group pics at the range, hunting pics, etc.  Short thank you video.  Handwritten letters and stories of how people are helped, like saving time getting permit to acquire emailed and online registration or getting a CCW license, small gifts like patches/stickers/coins, military and historical things, or regular stuff like snacks, tshirts, caps, etc.  Or an email thanks at least.  Take them out for lunch or ask if there's anything you can do for them while they're here.

For those available on Friday, we have a court hearing open to the public, Penales V Lopez (mightve been renamed to Roache V Lopez) for the possession of firearms for people aged 18-21.  They'd be delighted if people attended and show interest in the case. This is a hearing on the merits, and will take about an hour.

Parking - on street or  there's two state parking structures nearby I recommend.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/5jf5T8GPRX2ZfsZ28 https://maps.app.goo.gl/kRG3Kr9PbgvmPucJ6
Metal detectors - you will be screened, no weapons allowed.
Federal recognized ID is required - Drivers license/State ID with gold star, military/federal ID, passport & passport card, green card, TWIC, etc.

Here's a list of things they were able to win or laws changed because of their actions -

CCW licenses
Stopping some of the CCW place restrictions - signage/permission on private property, places that serve alcohol, parks/beaches.
Non-resident CCW licenses
Permit to acquire/registration - emailed permits and online registration
HPD open late on Wednesdays for firearms transactions
Green card holders can acquire firearms
Micronesians on COFA can acquire firearms
US Nationals (American Samoans) can acquire firearms
Medical marijuana firearms possession
PTA approvals for non-relevant medical and mental health issues
PTA approvals for non-relevant violations for things like disorderly conduct and harassment
PTA approvals changed from lifetime bans for misdemeanor offenses changed to 2A rights restored after 20 years.
Ensuring police chiefs adhere to the time limits - 120 days for CCW licenses, 40 days for permit to acquire
Legalizing Tasers and electric guns
Legalizing Batons
Legalizing different types of other defensive tools - swords, switchblade knives, butterfly knives, etc
On going litigation for pistol magazine bans
On going litigation for ability for 18-21 year olds to possess firearms
On going litigation for sensitive places

Those are the ones I can recall right now, there's more I can't remember.

Forgot to add, for Federal District Court everyone goes through metal detectors/xray screening for weapons.  None allowed.

Also a Federal recognized ID is required - Drivers license/State ID with gold star, military/federal ID, passport & passport card, green card, TWIC, etc.

Lawsuit is Penales V Lopez, mightve been renamed to Roache V Lopez

Couple things I did in the past

Made these plaques out of modified Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club frames I bought for $2 at their closing sale.

Had a range day for them.

Had to make a correction for Friday's court.  I was wrong its not administrative, it's the actual hearing for summary judgement on the merits of the case and will take about 1 hour.

This case went really fast, past cases took years to get to this point.

We had a good court hearing on the under 21 case, and should get a decision next month.

Thanks for all that helped to make a good and gracious weekend with your help and appreciation offered.  People helping them shoot at the gun range and met people that were helped by the lawsuits, offers of lunch and dinners, and exploring the island together.

Our attorneys basically work pro-bono for our 2A rights cases, getting paid by the State when they win, and the State tries to rip them off by mooting their wins resulting in no payment.  If you paid a law firm to take on a 2A lawsuit that goes to SCOTUS, it'd cost $1,000,000 and up.  Civil rights attorneys doing lawsuits pro bono are at the low end of the pay scale, Hawaii particularly pays low,  and sometimes the lawsuits go on for 10 years.  So they can work on a lawsuit without pay for 10 years, and when they win the State cheats them so they get zero.  Actually less than zero because they pay court fees, expert witnesses, travel expenses, printing fees, research fees, etc.  This is why, along with the 9th Circuits hostility towards the 2A, no other private attorneys take on 2A cases in Hawaii.

That is why it's important to thank the attorneys for doing this work.

Forgot to mention the Second Amendment Foundation is funding this case, the first time in Hawaii.  This is due to our attorneys hard work and support they see us locals provide.  Become a member of SAF.  SAF also sued for carry in post offices.

I didn't see this post but had a happy surprise when I saw zippz, Alan and Kevin at the range this past Saturday afternoon!

Thank you guys for the work that you have done to protect our 2A rights!

I think, therefore I am armed.
