I'm hoping gun friendly LEO will speak up against these bills.  They would not be exempt with personal arms, would they?   There's a couple on maui that are always at the open range days, one even owns a gun shop in town.

Bruddah 2asupport.... Sen. Ros Baker is from Maui and she is vice chair of the Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs.

Most of the pro-gun control measures that have been introduced thus far have been (or will end up) moving through PSM.

Maybe can drum up support and setup a grassroots effort on Maui??

Best of luck!! :shaka:

I'd be the last person you'd want in charge of organizing grassroots effort...  Lol.  But I'm going now to inform my local lgs about these bills (if they don't already know) and see what they think we should do to oppose.   I'm hoping their not like "uh, don't worry about it, that ull never pass".

If it looks like it might pass, we might do better by finding ways to make it even more restrictive or try to get them to completely ban rifles.

Wonder if the ACLU could provide some sort of assistance...

Not on the 2A front, but say for 1st amendment or FOIA requests I know they will (because they have supported me already).

JUST AN UPDATE.....  nobody gives a hoot except us on this forum.   The closest gun shop to me said "the nra is taking care of it, they may be illegal tomorrow but they're not today". The other gun shop hadn't heard about it.  I explained it and asked if there was any organization against it.  "We're just going to keep selling until they send us a letter saying they're illegal". WE ON THIS FORUM ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CARE!!  50 or less gun owners up against the state legislature.   Truly an eye opening experience for me.

I explained the no grandfathering of "assault weapons".   No real urgency or care on his behalf at all.

Sure. If our AR's a grabbed we'll all flock back to the stores to buy Mini 14's, bolt actions and lever guns.

It's almost like they wouldn't mind this scenario panning out.

In their defense, gun shop owners have a difficult time being activists in Hawaii and this law was technically just introduced today.

So what can be done?  50 of us get together to march, the local media labels us as baby killing extreme right activists.  We get laughed at by the general public?  The bill's pass?

I'm not even extreme right.  I don't own any weapons on this bill.

There are at least 100 assault style weapons at the open days at ukumehame.

Well, first thing is to relax a little. Took me a while to do last night when I first read this.

Second thing to do is read the legislation carefully without getting spun up about it.

Third, think about how to calmly, rationally explain why you think this legislation is not appropriate. You use this later when writing to congress.

Fourth, while you are thinking... tell everyone about the law being considered.

Fifth, stay tuned here. Those with the most experience dealing with legal issues haven't chimed in much yet as this is literally hot off the presses news.

You're right I need to take a breather.

I just got off the phone with Sen. Ihara's office, the secretary who answered the phone explained that this was not written by the Senator but submitted by request from one of his constituents.  I explained my concerns with some of the wording (instant felon and lack of grandfathering) of certain sections as well as the bill it's self, she seemed pretty receptive and is expecting a ton of reaction from it.  She went on to explain that the Senator's policy is that when a bill is requested and written by a constituent that he submits them no matter his position on the issue, that's what the "by request" stamped next to the signature means. She also said that she believes it won't get much attention and feels it won't go to far because "not a lot of thought went into the writing of it".

This does not mean we should stop the relentless emails calls and letters, it seems that we already have a foot in the door but we can't stop there. We need to kick that door down and be as vocal as we can. I hope this helps to calm your nerves a bit but please don't stop making your voices heard.

Interesting.  I tend to take people at face value, but. . .

Anyways, then someone from his district should request an opposing bill and see how that goes if that's the case.
