I figured it would help to have some national attention. I sent a copy of the bill to Emily Miller. She responded and said she would do some investigating.

I just got off the phone with Sen. Ihara's office, the secretary who answered the phone explained that this was not written by the Senator but submitted by request from one of his constituents......She went on to explain that the Senator's policy is that when a bill is requested and written by a constituent that he submits them no matter his position on the issue, that's what the "by request" stamped next to the signature means.

Maybe it's time to write a bill that goes the other way and have the Senator submit that by request... :geekdanc:

I'm writing to Senators Ihara and Slom.  This bill is scary as hell.   No one can rest easily thinking this bill won't go anywhere.  Work now. Rest easily when it dies.

I know that some here have posted some of TheHossUSMC's videos.  if you do not know of him, you should look for them, he makes a lot of great videos.  well, after this bill cme up, i messaged a bunch of youtube commentators about the ban, in the hopes that some would see it and raise awareness.  so far, most havent responded, mostly because they're large channels and i imangine they dont have time to read all their PM's.

but Hoss saw this.

hopefully he'll be putting a video out on it; he's followed by a lot of other prominent youtubers, so hopefully this will start getting some notice on the mainland should a more people start seeing this.

also write your representative and senator and let them know

here is the link for the legislators contact information

I basically said

I am writing you to let you know that I support the 2nd ammendment, the right to keep and bear arms. I am asking you to vote against any new bills that put more restrictions on firearms and the registration process.  It already is very difficult here in Hawaii to purchase a firearm.

I brought this bill to the attention of the NRA the other day while following up on my membership status as a lifetime member.  The woman I spoke to said they would appreciate us keeping them abreast of the progress of this bill.  Well for what it's worth anyway.  They probably got tons of other stuff to contend with also.  :shaka:

All need to e-mail/call their applicable representatives and state senators. I already e-mailed mine. My DEMOCRAT rep. agrees that Hawaii already has among the strictest gun laws in the nation and that he would need to be persuaded to vote for this SB 219 AW Ban or any other gun control. People need to vote and voice their concerns to the politicians, some of them actually may listen.

Every little bit helps. I also try to spread the word to national gun rights orgs/activists. The more people aware the better.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Been a spectator for too long, came to the realization that I CAN and is my duty as a gun owner to DO his part.

Got a response from my Representative.  I wrote specifically about SB219 and any proposed bills relating to additional restrictions.  Hopefully SB219 and other Senate bills won't reach the House of Reps.  I also wrote to Senator Galuteria and all of the chairs and vice chairs of each committee that SB219 was referred/deferred to.

Dear Drck:

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senate Bill 219 - Relating to Firearms.  If SB 219 comes up for a vote in the House of Representatives, I will take your concerns into consideration.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or additional concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Rep. Scott K. Saiki
State Representative
District 26 (McCully-Kaheka-Kakaako-Downtown)

Heard back from Rep Bert Kobayashi.    Here's his take:

--snip--

Thanks for your email about SB219, which I have just glanced at; a multi-page bill, not easy digested quickly.

I'm not on Judiciary committee which will approve or not approve this bill, so likely will not see this bill until it comes to the floor, meaning the full House.  By that time, the votes are relatively clearly set; i.e., most committee chairs will not bring a bill to the floor without votes to pass.  The House Judiciary chair did take an informal poll on a gun control bill several weeks ago but I do not know the results of the poll.

Likely, there will be some sort of gun control bill passed, given public input and sentiment to date.

There is likely to be a grandfather clause in the bill, perhaps in addition to section 3 of the bill, which it talks about "mature" rights....but this was from my quick look.

I beg your pardon, my good sir; I could not help but notice that your trade school education is making itself painfully self-evident by way of your usage of grammar; your usage of punctuation, or lack, thereof; and your incoherent, mindless prattle.

Nah, nah, nah, just kidding, bruddah 338KID!!   ;D   I just jealous of your 100K union job!!  :shaka:
