Has anyone purchased any firearms from Honolulu Firearms? I've been in the store and noticed they have a lot of military/ LE firearms in stock. Other stores has almost 0 inventory. I was browsing around looking for a non military type rifle, was almost completely ignored. Just curious, been in there a few times, seems like they still have old stock from Magnum days.

I haven't been there myself but I heard that their prices aren't the best in town.

My personal picks are either OGC Tactical or Security Equipment Corp.  OGC does have their 3% CC fee, I don't remember SEC having one so that's something to consider also.  But both places have excellent customer service, but still you should always do your research before going in anyway.  At Honolulu Firearms it's been Hit or Miss depending who's working.

I've gotten a couple super deals at Honolulu firearms.

They've got a different business model.

OGC sets their prices low. There's no haggling necessary. A lot of people appreciate that.

Honolulu firearms sets their prices high and almost expect you to haggle the prices down.

It's like buying almost anything else.

Some stuff will be less expensive, some stuff will be more expensive.

Relationships have a lot to do with prices as well.

I try to shop at all the stores to keep an open relationship with them.

best part about buying a firearm there is that it'll give you credit towards a range membership

How does one go about doing this?  Do you just always frequent the store and then when the time is right ask them for a deal?  I realize now-a-days are probably not the best times, but in the future how would I actually do it?

Every retail establishment has the CC fee factored in...OGC lists cash prices. The 3% is a bank charge, not profit for the business.

Completely agree.  Most shops will do their best to match/lower prices to make a sale, so haggling is a must.

I always do my homework (know what it costs/is worth) and carry cash. It doesn't matter how often you frequent a store, if your offer is fair you'll get a deal. Being a "regular" only makes that deal better. In the end, there is nothing to it but to do it...just don't be a dick lowballer.

This is very interesting and great info.  Ok, so for example, if I see a pistol selling for $500 online and a local gun store has it for $575, would it be fair and reasonable if I walk-in with $530 cash and ask to buy it now?

I think you would need to figure in shipping/FFL fees as well.

Typically the cost of the firearm plus shipping and FFL transfer is the price you'd want to look for.

Most stores will match that price if they can.

Bear in mind that the price they pay fluctuates.

If they can make some profit and still sell you the gun, they'll usually be pretty accommodating.

I think the $540-550 range would be more inline, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Typically the cost of the firearm plus shipping and FFL transfer is the price you'd want to look for.
And that is the magic number. I usually add anywhere from $10-40 to the maximum that I'd be willing to spend. Giving up lunch money to support a LGS is a small price to pay.

It never hurts to ask. There is a little wiggle room not much. The profit on most guns really suck. It is almost not worth your time trying to sell them.

I definitely believe in this statement.

I don't mind spending 20-50 bucks more to support local business when buying a gun but if the price is hundreds more, I'll do my research and come in and ask for a better deal.

I agree with supporting local gun shops, but it also comes down to the availability in this scarce market. One could make the point that the shortages may not be resolved until after the 2014 election even if they do not pass any restrictive ban.
