Glocks can't be all that bad if 50 or 60 % or more of LEO carry them. IMO they are safe good reliable firearms .
PS: I love my G 21 gen4 45 acp

I just got off gun broker and guys are asking $599 to $800 for the 17 gen 4, but they have higher cap mags than allowed in Hawaii....

I'll check around the LGS's for the 17....

When I checked before the answer was "it's on backorder and they are not sure when the 17 will be back in stock"

I'll keep calling every so often, hopefully prices have not jumped up too bad....

Is the 34 the newer version for glock?
The Gen 4 Glocks are the current versions.  The 34 is just a different model than the 17.

You also need to be aware of the recoil spring, of which I believe the current one is marked 0-4-2 for both the Glock 17 and 34.  Some people also have some trouble with ejector and in that case, I believe the one that most people have had success with is the 30274.

That said, if you are getting one of recent manufacture, it should have the current components.  If you are buying used, you may want to check those components.  I believe Glock was sending out the current recoil springs under a RSA program, but mine came with the 0-4-2 spring and I haven't have any problems with any of my Gen 4 Glocks.

Last time I checked on nationwide gun forums, most people report no price premium on handguns at this time, so I wouldn't expect to pay a premium for a Glock 17 or 19.  Should be in the $580-$600 range locally.  Maybe a little less for Gen 3, which are also still currently being produced by Glock (or at least they were at the end of 2012).

Good luck!

I disagree with this statement.  There are all sorts of factors that play in an agency's selection of a firearm for issue, like the new manufacturer's willingness to "buy back" their existing sidearms and so on, with "best gun for our officers" being fairly far down the list.  For example, the FBI didn't start issuing semi-automatic pistols to their agents until the 80's, and even then, the first guys to get semi-autos were tacticool 0perat0rs.  About 95% of military sidearms are Beretta M9s.  Now, I think the M9 is a fine pistol, but I've heard that some people disagree...  I'm just saying that I wouldn't base my judgment of a gun off of what a government entity thinks about it.

Agree that the just because a certain percentage of LEO carry a particular brand/model does not automatically equate to safest/best/most reliable.

*cough* ... lowest bidder for government contracts... *cough*

P.S. I love my gen 3 G19!!

Because they have all the ergonomic qualities of a brick.

Man even the haters have one glock in their safe. They are what they are.
Not this guy.  Never will, either!   :grrr:
I'll never got a Glock either. I only have a Sig and Beretta in my safe.

I don't fuss with triggers on Glocks. Just personal opinion

I always upgrade to night sights since I believe that if I ever have to protect myself or family with a pistol there will be a 90% chance that it will be in low light or darkness.

I also always upgrade the slide release lever on Glocks.

That's it for me as far as mandatory changes.

I've used aftermarket barrels in an attempt to get more accuracy but I'm not sure how effective they really are.

An extra aftermarket barrel is would e good for the reloaders, though. With all the warnings about lead through polygonal rifling, might as well just get a new barrel.

I have two Glocks: a G17 and G21; both Gen 4.

Each function flawlessly. It's true that the ergonomics pale in comparison to a Sig, but for the price and the reliability, it's a good gun.

I only own one Glock 17 Gen 2. I have changed the mag release and slide release with extended versions, 3.5lb connector, and when I had to replace the factory plastic guide rod and return spring I did so with a stainless steel one. Also, replaced stock sights with the fiber optic/tritium type for use in low light situations. I also have a Hogue sleeve on it to make it fit my hand better. I need to replace the other springs in it as they are worn as well. I have ordered factory springs (Not going to compromise reliability for a lighter trigger). I don't know if I am going to add the mag well extension or not. I have not decided. I don't usually have a problem doing fast mag changes so I am probably not going to do it.

I've been thinking about a Glock 19 gen 4 or  Glock 26 gen 4 but have been reading that the extractor is an issue which is causing a lot of erratic brass flying into face and stuff.  It's only the 9mm thats having this problem.  I'm wondering if current owners of these 2 models can verify if indeed there is a problem.  Apex makes an aftermarket extractor which supposedly will fix this issue but is currently sold out!

I have three Gen 4 Glocks. 2-17s and a 34 and no ejection problems or brass to the face. I have the current RSA spring and ejector (30274 or something like that). However, I heard that the 19 has been little more problematic, both the Gen 3 and Gen 4.

I have a g19 gen3, was about to get the g17 gen4, but was concerned about the issues. Picked up the M&P 9 FS instead.
The M&P feels really good in the hand, but I shoot the g19 better.
Maybe I will try the g17 after all.

Honolulu firearms has a glock 17 gen 4 in stock, but that's the only glock...

Is there a glock shortage in Hawaii?

Sorry didn't ask, but seen it at closing today. They took the prices off all the guns, everything had to be called out for prices. "Price check"

Give them a call first thing in the morning.

They did have a custom competition glock 34 on consignment...

I've owned quite a few Glocks and have put thousands of rounds through them. No, they aren't "PRETTY", but they do work and work well. My recent addition is a 4th generation model 21 .45acp. I got the chance to put some rounds through it the other day and I simply love it. Very controllable and accurate. But, like all things it's a matter of preference......Glocks, Sigs,Springfields or Smith & Wessons. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these.   :shaka:

glock G34's are great guns, I'd recommend one!  longer sight radius=better for shooting accuracy.  Etiher way, IDK why people say a G19 or G17 is better all around considering you cant ccw in hawaii (and if your gonna ccw, why not go with the g26?  it carries 10 rounds just like the big boys do).  It's also is the same the size as a 1911 and a lot of people ccw those so its sorta a moot point.  G34 has a lighter connector (4.5 lbs trigger pull instead of the 5.5 lbs others have) as well as an extended slide release already installed stock.  The longer barrel also allows you to get better velocity out of your rounds (they say regular rounds go to +p and +p goes to +p+).
