I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed elsewhere on this forum, but folks should know there is a legal firm out there that has been suing folks that cut and past entire articles to internet forums, citing copyright infringement. So, it's best to post a couple of paragraphs and link versus the entire article...just FYI

Not sure if you're replying to my post, but if so: No, it's about copyright protection and what many consider frivolous lawsuits for copyright infringment for posting "protected" material on blogs and other websites....

You Will have to talk me thru it step by Detailed step, as I AM NOT a computer person and it is
all I can do to finally be able to post photos from a photo hosting site to here or any other forum that I am in.

If you want to post a link, just post a link. Nothing wrong with that.

The sticky parts come in when you are posting quotes and taking content from other sites. The easiest and safest way is to post a link and then just describe what you are linking to.

Oh, and if you are just posting content/pictures you made, there's no problem with that.

I think so long as you put the article in quotes, {quote}{/quote} and have a direct link back to the original source, there shouldn't be any issues with copyright infringement. It's common courtesy to give credit to the author of the work by linking back to the website you found the information on.

Not exactly...the issue at hand in terms of copyright infringment is what is "fair use" and what is improper use. The way other sites have gotten in trouble is by posting the entire article, even if in quotes. The claim (which is not without merit) is that if you post the entire content without getting prior approval to do so, you are depriving the author/owner of any possible compensation or control of his product.

Now, there is a legal concept called the "Fair Use Doctrine" which says you can use copyrighted material without prior approval, but the determining factors as to when and how much you can use legally is ill-defined. And as the information in the below link states, "Acknowledging the source of the copyrighted material does not substitute for obtaining permission."

That being said, probably the best way to avoid infringement issues is to post a link to the original story and maybe a paragraph (or line) or two in your post, but not the entire article or story.
