Sculpture Of Knotted Gun Will Be Displayed At HCC
« on: September 24, 2010, 08:37:56 AM »
I saw this story on KITV a few nights ago. I thought it was a dull story and probably not much to talk about. Apparently State Rep. John Mizuno is trying to find a home for a sculpture of a knotted revolver.

In the story, they say
Quote
At first glance, the image does seem violent because the gun is cocked back.

I thought, really? Does a cocked revolver seem violent if it's knotted? Why should a revolver even represent violence. How about a statue of a man beating on a woman, or a robber holding someone at knife-point, or even a car running running someone over?

I don't have a problem with art and think they an individual should be able to put this wherever they want, just not have the State funding it. Did you know that 1% of construction costs for new State buildings go to fund art?

I am not a lawyer.

I just love how this will be on display for all those young impressionable, make that HIGHLY impressionable, students. Because guns are violent, even if they are knotted and sculpted.

I did not know the State funded art, but in this case, it sounds like state funded advertising.

What do they mean by 'cocked back'?  Doesn't looked cocked to me ???
I think it's ugly, it does not put blame on individuals, and instead fixates violence on inanimate objects.  People need to realized they are the ones ultimately responsible for violent actions, or any other action for that matter.

I got a perfect place for it... In the dumpster behind Mizuno's office.
To the state..  Stop wasting our tax monies on Bull $h**!

Maybe they should have a sculpture of a Knotted Politician!  They are more dangerous to the public than a gun in the right hands, IMO.

The hammer is not cocked, the reporter and the editors are both retards. Sad thing is 90% of people that see that aren't going to know the difference.

Waste of time and money.  Bust that piece of crap up and fill up some freaking potholes on H-1 why dont cha?
Relax, I've banned myself..

This is a replica of a piece of art some degenerate crafted after John Lennon was killed by Mark David Chapman...

Not that it matters, but John Lennon was shot with a Charter Arms .38 special revolver that he bought by Chapman in HONOLULU, HI. Hows that for irony?

I'm suprized they did not incorporate that into the news report, and twist it around to make it seem Hawaii's lax gun laws at that time was responsible for J Lennon's murder.

It looks like the sculpture is now displayed in the cafeteria.

Is it marked .45 caliber?  If so, is it .45LC or .45 ACP, and where do I get a 629 that caliber?

Looks like a Colt to me.  If it's in 45 Colt, most likely to be a Colt Anaconda.

Well, posted a comment to the newspaper's site explaining the difference between a cocked revolver and one that has not been cocked.  We'll see if it does any good.

At least they didn't call it an ak-47.

Back in the news again tonight.  Poll on it on http://www.khon2.com/default.aspx
Looks like most folks would rather it not be there.

The newspaper article makes it sound like there's more support.
