was just wondering, I dont have a gun safe yet so I am storing my ar in my gun case at the moment, my question is should I put desiccant packs in my case to help prevent rust?  I already have it descently lubed with froglube but was wondering if I should also use these packs as an extra preventative measure

the case propably not airtight anyways so waste of a pack unless you bag the rifle.

Agree with Aiea. It is not recommended to store your firearm in a case unless other precautions are taken. A case may trap moisture and accelerate the oxidation process. I stored my rifle in a plastic case and left an identical rifle uncased and the rifle in the case developed rust all over the barrel. Luckily the rifle cleaned up nicely with fine steel wool but if I didnt catch it in time the rust could have caused lasting damage. If storing your rifle in a case is your only reasonable option, I recommend you lube and bag it so the bag is airtight and throw a dessicant pack in he bag before buttoning everything up.

The other thing to consider is that many rifle cases are often lined with foam. Commonly used  foam is a petroleum by-product. The foam tends to break down over time; and its decay is accelerated when it comes into contact with other petroleum products such as motor oil. If you lube your firearm with a petroleum (or even non-petroleum) based product and case it for storage, you may find yourself peeling the foam off of your rifle when you finally get around to uncasing it.

I would say get a pelican case and take out your insert foam and store your rifle in it with your d-pack.  Then when its time to transport your rifle you can reinstall the foam and go . Pelican case are perfect air tight with locking holes for locks .
