Oh, purdy.

will look better once i get all the factory greese  off.  will be two to three months before i get this thing out on the range   ordered some  457 lead balls and oil swabs.  Will pick up some more stuff for it next payday.  For being half brass, the revolver is pretty heavy and the wood grips are yet to be desired.

(sigh) I couldn't resist. I tried, I really did. But... but... but...

:D

The new member of the family: an early Century CETME with a stainless steel receiver. That's one of the least risky of the early models and the deal was sealed for me by the relatively hard to find wide forearm with the bi-pod. Here it is as it arrived - configured like a G3.

The fellow I bought it from also, apparently, rounded up everything in his shop that was remotely related to G3/HK91/Cetme riles and sent me 3 (yes 3) boxes of extra stuff for it. So many mags I haven't counted them all yet. A bayonet. Everyone needs a bayonet, right? 3 slings, a couple different mag carriers, various spare parts and about 4 different stock sets.

Here it is in vintage wood. Its kinda like a dress up toy...

Shoots well so far, as well. I'm still waiting for my full set of reloading dies so I only got to squeeze off about 6 shots (the rest of the brass I have needs to be resized) after I stripped it down, inspected it to make sure it was safe to shoot, and put it all back together. These guns are frequently projects so I looked it over very carefully. Looks to be in great shape. I will hopefully be able to get some sense of accuracy after I can make some ammo next week.

I originally wanted a PTR 91 - a US manufacture version of the German version of this rifle. This is the older Spanish original - and as you might expect, the German version is a significant upgrade. In general the HK versions are twice the price of PTRs... which are in turn twice the price of the Cetme's. Which... is part of why I have a Cetme. The other reason is that the chambers of the PTR have a reputation for being somewhat picky about which surplus ammo you feed it. I almost exclusively reload so that shouldn't be an issue... but I don't like the idea of having a firearm that will occasionally choke on ammo that should be fine. Typically the trade off is accuracy but if you get a good Cetme its about on par with the PTRs as far as accuracy.

Why this rifle? The roller lock delayed blowback action has no gas system to get fouled by lead. This is an excellent semi auto 308 for firing cast bullets. Max velocity for properly made cast bullets (with gas checks) is around 2400 fps. Faster if you paper patch them. I have lots of fun experiments planned when I get the time. Since I can't load my brass yet I've been having a blast reconditioning the 7 steel mags I got with it, repainting a few, grinding greater clearance for lead bullets on the front edge, touching up the fit of some mags that were too tight, oiling the wood stock...

Ahhhhh! Gotta love having a new project. :)

Be advised that if operating correctly these types of rifles typically sling the brass to the 2 o'clock and far.......like 10 to 15 yards, so you need a brass catcher (net) or a deflector.  Also the rear of the ejection port is what the brass catches on the way out so you usually get a ding or two on the side of the casing.  How new/rounded the rear of the port is usually determines how dinged up the brass gets.  My 91 puts a reasonable single ding in the side.  My SR9TC puts two pretty sharp dings on the side.  Expect that you can reload them, however the case is going to come out looking like you pulled it out of the sewer after being in there for a couple of years.  First time you see a case come out of these and you're picking your jaw up off the ground.

If I can hit peas with this thing at 100 yards I'll be ecstatic. :) "Barbara" is an appropriate name for Spanish Lady, no? For now its just "the rifle," though.

Thanks, GZire. Yeah, I saw that all over forums as I was figuring out if I really wanted one of these things. No good if its going to chew through my brass. I had a port buffer from RTG before the rifle even arrived. I shot it without the buffer first time out just to see... yeah. Its like the brass evaporates. You look around the bench for your brass and its just gone. Until the nice folks down at the other end of the range point them out to you.... My 10-ish% under max loads threw them 25-30 feet. They weren't dinged up too bad, though. The receiver on this thing is spotless - I know it was a safe queen for the guy who sold it to me and must not have been shot much before he got it. Bolt gap is .015, cam on the cocking tube works easily, very little wear on the mag catch, trigger is lighter and smoother than I was expecting...

So far, so good. I should know early this coming week if it shoots straight.

Nice rifle.  I put a port buffer on top and heavy buffer in the stock of my PTR.  Brass does come out ugly, but it is only cosmetic and no real damage to the brass if you use a port buffer.  One of my fav's to shoot for sure, just expensive to feed even with reloading.
Best of all, mags are CHEAP

Yeah I would recommend a net.  I forget sometimes and when I did I typically block the 2 o'clock of the port with my range bag.  It's enough that I can get the brass back.  I've come to the conclusion that I use those rifles to get rid of my brass, or think of it as a single reload after I shoot through the rifles.

Newbie here so I figured share one of my old favs... My 20 year old M1A.   It's actually my "back in the day" match rifle but since I no longer shoot competitively I decided to retro it a bit while I refinish the old heavy NM stock.   I finally found a decent USGI M14 stock on eBay and added Sparrowhawks FDS (dummy) kit.   The kit is attached to the stock, NOT receiver, and everything is de-milled.   In fact there's further fitting required (more grinding, cutting of kit parts, and a few shims) to fit the stock while not making contact with the receiver.   It looked like a drop fit but it does take a little tweaking to get correct.   Again it really serves no function other that looks & filling the gaping holes on USGI M14 stock.   That being said, I must admit it looks pretty cool, IMHO anyway ;)    Think I'll put my old vented hand guard back on as well at some point for that real old school look

Thanks for looking & Ahui hou :shaka:

Nice M1a,

All those high speed stocks/chassis are cool, but nothing like a nice wood stock on a M1a

They sell them in a set, but I bought all three separately and saved a couple hundred bucks.

I love these little guys

From the Hyatt Regency in Minnesota. My wife and I were there for our last residency for school....great hotel by the way.

Even though they are a concealed carry state, businesses have the ability to post such announcements just inside the entrance to their establishments.

It still begs the question, if you are "concealed carry," how would they even know? There must be major legal and liability issues for you if a handgun incident occurs?

But.....I just couldn't resist!

These are beautiful.

They are the 629 V Comp 44 magnum & the 627 8 shot 357 magnum.

Hopefully I have time to do a complete review of these beauties, soon.
