gun shop - try before you buy?
« on: March 17, 2013, 12:00:49 AM »
This has probably been posted before. If it was, im sorry. But are there any gun shops that let you try the handguns before you buy, if you show that you have cash in hand?

ha, no!

What your gonna wanna do is either make freinds with people with guns or go to a shooting range which rents guns and spend a shit load to test fire their guns (which possibly may not be the cleanest guns or in the best working order).  I think that there are a few range days you can read about in the event's page which if you are a member of the HRA, you can test fire other peoples guns if you bring your own ammo.  what guns are you intrested in buying?  You can also take a handgun safety course and most will have a lot of different guns and calibers you can play/learn with as a part of the class.  You need to take the class anyways to get a handgun so I'd do that.  I'd highly suggest Hawaii Defense Foundation with Chris.  It's an awesome class because not only is he a great teacher and very freindly, you get your affidavid the very same day (2+ months wait for some of the other classes)!  :shaka:  http://www.hawaiidefensefoundation.org/  :shaka:

Thanks for the info sliver. Ive shot a Beretta  m9, 1911, and s&w 357 that my coworker owns. I wanted to try the usp 9, glock 17, and m&p 9 before i make my choice.

I'd say your well on your way but should shoot or at least handle as many guns as you possibly can before making your final decision.  Don't forget that there are FNs, sigs, czs, Tauruses, and a crap load more guns out there for you to choose from!  everyone's hands are made differently and all the different models of guns feel different.

Honolulu firearms has a range and about 20 or so firearms to rent.

They won't take any gun out of inventory to shoot but if you're looking for a popular model, chances are they'll have a range one to shoot.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

If you're patient enough you can wait for the shooting fair @ KHSC.

4th Sunday of every month. It's called the HRA/LIFE Fun Shoot.

See some info here on the 2013 schedule.

take the LIFE handgun course if you want to shoot a lot of different handguns... they have about 25-40 different models and makes from semi auto to revolvers to cowboy pistols in 38, 357, 9mm and 45.... it's worth the $120 if you want to shoot different guns in different calibers.... everyone there is patient and helpful plus the ammo is free.....

I know this is kind of a strange request,  but I was wondering if I could pay one of you guys to meet me at the range and bring a bunch of different types of handguns and let me try them.  I'm just trying to broaden my horizons before making a purchase.

How much do they charge to rent each handgun.  Also how does it work.  Do you pay for the hour and buy your own ammo?

course is required to purchase a handgun.... they do take a while to give you the affidavit but if you are not in a rush you should be fine....
