can you loan a gun to someone?
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:37:40 PM »
anyone know what the laws in Hawaii are for loaning a handgun or shotgun to someone?  I know someone which wants to go shooting but I just don't have the time as I work.  Can I just give him my guns to go shoot and have him bring it back to me when he is done?

If I remember from my handgun course, you can loan a long gun to someone for 10 days (I think, you better check this), but you can NOT loan someone a handgun.

^^This. Shotguns and rifles can be loaned, but handguns cannot.

I thought the loan period on long guns was 14 days but a quick check in the HRS says 15

 §134-4  Transfer, possession of firearms.
(c)  Any lawfully acquired rifle or shotgun may be lent to an adult for use within the State for a period not to exceed fifteen days without a permit; provided that where the rifle or shotgun is to be used outside of the State, the loan may be for a period not to exceed seventy-five days.

It's legal to loan both handguns and long guns? Or did you mean just long guns
Gun control means using both hands.

Alot of handgun owners don't know this, but it's illegal to loan your handgun to your spouse to go shooting at the range by themselves.  You have to jointly register the handgun in order to do that.

Yup, cant loan it to your spouse but Feistein cant wait for you to loan it to her so she can keep it!
