Interesting that the DHS is awash in ammo, but police are facing shortages.

Barter for ammo?
Do police departments have select fire and automatic rifles? That would be a great trade. Ammo for a rifle. But then they wouldn't want a gun like that on the streets. Or, the police could raid the doomsday preppers and take their ammo and supplies.

I don't see this as "news" and in all honesty, seems to be written to sound more scary than it really is. Fact is, small town PD's have limited budgets and it's not uncommon for them to barter with departments in neighboring jurisdictions. That's just life. Until they report that a major Metro PD has shortage (like the LAPD)? It's nothing to worry about.

The LAPD needs to run out of rifle ammo, maybe then this won't happen again.
