I have two M&P 9's.  One full size on compact.  I don't have any Glocks.

My vote is for the M&P.  I don't know exactly why, but I shoot my M&P's considerably better than my Glock 22.
I shot my M&P 9 FS so much better that I ended up buying a VTAC version in 40 Cal.
I actually just received my 9mm slide back from a ATEI from getting milled for a Trijicon RMR. I'm excited to try it out.

I love my Glock 22. It's the RTF2 version and I just love the grip.  But I just shoot my M&P's better.

I haven't shot my M&P in a while, but when switching between a Glock and M&P I definitely notice the blocky feeling of the Glock's grip. I do like the texture on the Glock Gen 4.

The standard Glock trigger felt like it had a really heavy break, though this was comparing a low round count Glock trigger to a worn in M&P trigger. M&P trigger when resetting doesn't have a pronounced reset like the Glock. Some don't like the M&P trigger because of this, but it hasn't really bothered me.

Did some weak side one handed drills with the Glock and it was really awkward locking the slide to the rear with my trigger finger. The M&P has the ambidextrous slide catch/release, so it would be a little easier to operate in those situations. Really though, more training usually helps.

I can't shoot blocks straight. The block trainer gave up on me. The grip is too uncomfortable for me. Also my arthritis get worse when shooting.

But the m&p is more comfortable and I can shoot it longer and more accurately.

Sucks to be getting old.

Had a Glock 9mm, then bought a M&P 9, then sold the glock.  Don't regret it at all.

Grip fit better and is more ergo
Point / grip angle is more natural for me
I'm one of the few that like the stock trigger (but I also like AK triggers). My sisters stock G17 trigger feels much heavier. I did buy the apex RAM for my M&P, but haven't installed it yet.
Like others, I shoot the M&P much more accurately than my old glock (both had 3dot sights).

The fit and ergos on my M&P are head and shoulders above any of my Glocks yet I shoot my Glocks better than my M&P. More likely because I have thousands of rounds with Glocks. Maybe 500 rounds or so on the M&P. I'm sure I can train through the trigger press but that will cost $$$. Also I've got several Glocks in the safe so everytime I switch pistols at the range it take a few mags to adjust trigger presses so again more $$$ on ammo in this day and age. Too bad though. Whatever a Glock does good the M&P can do better. Definately more a me thing.

My M&Ps are new. The full sized at least does have a noticeable reset unlike the earlier models.  The M&P is definitely a better pistol than when it first came out.

I really can't tell you.  All I can say is I bought mine a couple of months ago and it's a far different pistol than what my friend had bought on the first run.

Push comes to shove go to a local shop and ask them to dry fire the pistol.  You'll be able to tell if it's got a noticeable reset or not.

I got all the APEX stuffs, so not really concerned about the trigger.

My concerns are about the barrel.

From what I understand, they changed the barrels on the M&P 9.

When, I am not sure.

The M&P feels better in my hand, trigger is friendlier, and its just so much more sexier than the G17.

Despite all of this, when I'm running around shooting and reloading on the fly (HDF Range Days), I prefer the G17.  Possibly because the Gen 4 RTF, but besides that I can't really put my finger on why I feel this way.

I prefer the M&Ps.  Grip on the M&P is more comfortable for me and I can get a higher hold on the pistol.  To find the production date, look at the sticker on the box.  Under the SKU is a 4 digit number.  First number is the year, last 3 numbers is the day it was produced.  My .40 is 2194, so 2012, July 13.  My 9 Pro is 0154.  I can't see the number on my wife's full size 9mm as she painted the box pink, but its earlier than that.
I haven't really been keeping up with the updates, but I do know S&W changed one of the springs on the sear in the later production runs (sometime in late 2010 I believe) as a few of the 9s and 40s were reportedly having "dead trigger" issues.  This made for a noticeably heavier trigger than the earlier models.  I also know the striker was updated (used to be black, new one is silver), as some were breaking earlier than expected.  There were also some accuracy complaints with the 9mms barrels but I believe it was limited to the 5" Pro Series not the 4.25 barrels.
Both of our 9mm pistols have well over 20,000 rounds through them and I haven't even had to change the recoil spring yet.   Terrific pistols, the only issue so far is the slide stop on my wife's pistol broke a couple of months or so ago, (fairly common part breakage from what I've read).
Kanoa at SEC is a Glock guy but also knows a ton about the M&Ps.  In fact I think he's been to the armorer's class for both, excellent wealth of knowledge.

mnpfamily,

Thanks for the info, but 2194 = 2012, July 13 ????

Sorry, I know that I am not the sharpest tack in the box, but the numbering does not compute for me.

Regarding the barrel change, I read an article on 10-8 Performance about it. I did'nt realize that it was just for the PRO series.

I have to find it and re read it.

Count the actual calendar days, starting at January 1, 2012.

194 calendar days later and you're at July 13, 2012.

I choose the glock cuz its pretty much the same price starting out and both are just about as accurate as the other but with about 20-30 bucks worth of mods, you can end up with a trigger on the glock which has a 1/8 inch trigger pull, 0.063 inch reset, and a 2-2.5lb trigger pull (sub 2lb pull if you spend a bit more money modifying the trigger pin location) which can be reset to stock in just a few mins with stock parts.  Glock has higher round mags (if you were in a free state) and I think is more reliable and has more accessories.
