Can someone please provide the group with more information about shooing at Scholfield?

What types of rifles range distances?
What are the range markers at for pistol shooting?
Are there actions bays for rapid firing a handgun like 3 gun competition?
Are you allowed to rapid file from pistol and rifle?

If I'm a member can I bring family and or friends to shoot?

What are the range dates and hours?

Sorry for all the noob questions.....

Regarding rifle range distances, it will depend on which range the club has scheduled.  Even then, many times we are scheduled for a 300 meter range but may be restricted to say 50 or 100 yards by range control, so it varies.

Range dates vary month to month and can be cancelled with short notice if the Army (or other group with higher priority) needs the range for training.  I've never taken family or friends, but I believe the policy is a one time allowance for each guest.

Ranges at the CR ranges are about 5 to 100 yards, there are minimum safe distances if you are shooting at stuff like metal targets and bowling pins.  Can rapid fire, but have to be safe.  No bays or movement on the range while firing.  Can bring 1 guest to shoot.  However if they are military or military dependent, they have to become a member to shoot, after the first visit I think.

Other good things are you can place targets at various ranges, draw from holsters (get training if you never did this before), silhoutte targets.

Range dates are whenever the range is available on the weekends and varies, so you have to become a member and get on our email list.   It can be affected by military training on the ranges, maintenance being done, and no volunteers to run the range.

If you become a member of the club, it's important for you to get qualified to help volunteer and run the range so more range days are available.

What types of rifles range distances?
Distances – vary depending on the range you are at.  CR-2 is good up to about 200 yards, I forget the distance you can take your targets out to.  KR-3 is good to well over 1,000 meters, but you are restricted in how far out you can take targets/frames due to materials (think expended items) down range.

What are the range markers at for pistol shooting?
Range Markers – there are none.  You place your own targets/frames as you desire.  Club does provide, but you can bring your own.

Are there actions bays for rapid firing a handgun like 3 gun competition?
Action Bays – there are none in the sense of KHSC.  The ranges are pretty large and even on CR-2 you are required to only occupy a certain part of it.  3-gun shoots……..no not in the sense of another club coming in.  There had been a vote on allowing reciprocity with the CMP folks, but when you consider the different operating conditions it would be best to just join SRGC as it’s pretty cheap.  Another issue is SRGC is a non-profit organization with it’s own insurance……..just  a lot of issues that can come up.  Now there is a Combat Shoot that is staged about once a month……..nothing too serious more a matter of giving the members an avenue to test gear and theory, it’s most definitely not a competition type atmosphere although you do run against the clock and others on occasion, but it’s more about being a stress applicator than a competition avenue.

Are you allowed to rapid file from pistol and rifle?
Rapid Fire – generally speaking yes, if it can be done in a safe and controlled manner.  To me this means if you aren’t hitting what you are aiming at or within reason then no.  So basically no bump firing, no slide fire stocks and no automatic fire.

If I'm a member can I bring family and or friends to shoot?
If you are a member you are allowed to sponsor a non-member one single time.  After this they must apply and be accepted as members before they are allowed to shoot again.  As the sponsor you are expected to maintain continuous oversight of them. This means you watch them shoot, you don't shoot at the same time they do as you are responsible for them and by extension making sure they are shooting safely.  You can rotate out shooting, but again not at the same time as them.

What are the range dates and hours?
Range Dates/Times – are always on a Sunday as requested by the club so long as it does not interfere with the Army training.  As a club member you will be notified when and what range(s) have been secured.  Generally speaking only SR-5 (skeet) is unaffected by the Army.  Hours are 1000 to 1400.

Targets – SRGC is in the stages of trying to get certain metallic targets OK’d by range control.  Currently the club rules state that if you cannot shoot through the target then you cannot use it.  The one exception to this is 22lr targets.

Calibers – All handgun and rifle up to .308, I forget if 30-06 was ok or not.  Try shooting KR-3 with a .308........frikken hard.  I am tapped out at about 900 yards.

^^^On holster work, note that this can be at the discretion of the OIC/RSO.  If you don't give them the warm fuzzy feeling, you aren't doing holster work........period.

No arguing with the OIC/RSO.

I've been looking into joining the Schofield Gun Club, but it really seems that the website is not being updated and I attempted to email the "club officer/activity director" for memberships to find that that email account is no longer used.  Does anyone know who to contact with questions?  I mean, I guess I could email every contact on that list but don't really want to do that.  I just wanted to know if the once a month meeting on the second wednesday of the month at 7pm are still happening.  I would really hate to make an effort to go down there to find that no meeting occurred.  Last meeting according to the calender schedule was last year.

I've yet to go to a meeting.  I have the application, but it states on the website:  "There is a new requirement to have your ID verified if you are claiming a status membership (Military/DoD/Dependent...). Bring your application to a meeting to have it signed off before submitting it to the membership contact."  I was going to attend yesterday, but at the last minute decided not to due to not actually being in contact with anyone to verify that there was going to be a meeting.  I was planning on going with a co-worker.  How would one go about to get email notifications?  I'm currently waiting for a response from the "webmaster" or "newsletter editor".  I haven't emailed everyone on the contact list... yet. lol

Membership is Ted Merrill (see his email addy on the link below):

You are correct that the site hasn't been updated in a bit.  Anywho get your stuff in ASAP.  Typically the ranks get culled in summer, best shot for associate members to get in.  If you are military, then no sweat.

Site says meeting is tonight......get there.

just curious as to why the application needs to be brought in during the meeting? is it approved or denied at that meeting?

To check your military ID cards, ensure you get information about the club and rules, get to know others in the club, and more participation at the meetings.

No shade, all out in the open with benches. You can bring a tent.

It depends on the membership counts. Non .mil (active duty, retired, DoD) are associate members and the club only allows a certain number of associate members as a percentage of .mil members.
