To be honest I am not sure what model other than the dream PU. I am probably willing to pay$150 when all said and done for a good working one. Don't really care about looks as I could just refinish it if I want.

Yea I plan in making some calls the next few days, thought I would ask here if anyone by chance already knew. I plan on going to HPD in Friday and starting the process for a long gun permit so I will be ahead of the game.

I've purchased 3 Mosins from dealers on Gun Broker (1 x 91/30 and 2 x M44), and 1 Mosin 91/30 From Buds Gun Shop.

I paid the least for Bud's Mosin, and I could not be any more pleased.  Total cost with shipping and FFL was $190.

If you pay less than $200 in this market, it's either a lucky find, or condition is nowhere close to "excellent".  Of course, it could be more of a rare collectable, in which case condition is trumped by rarity.  Some rare Mosins can bring thousands from the right buyer.  As for refinishing a pre-war rifle, you may want to think twice.  Many owners who try to repair and improve a Mosin think they are "restoring" it.  They are not.  Restoring means to put the item back to it's original condition.  Most try to improve on that condition and wind up ruining whatever historical or authenticity attraction it once had.  Make sure the rifle you receive is NOT rare, unique, or in high demand before making modifications or improvements.  You'll be glad you did!

My recommendation is advertise on all the local gun boards you can find.  I believe there are many Mosins in people's safes they either bought cheap a long time ago or inherited.  They might be willing to sell for cheap since they have little to no money invested.

Success is based on timing.  If you aren't lucky enough to find one locally, then I think online sources are a safe bet.  Based on my experience, if you pay about $150-165 before FFL, you can get an excellent re-arenaled rifle in almost-like-new refurbished condition.  Just be alert and read the fine print.  Ask for pics if you can, and take advantage of places with low-risk guarantees, like Bud's.

One other tip.  If you think you might buy more than one 50-yr-old firearm, go ahead and apply for your C&R license.  What you save in FFL fees can pay for the license several times over.  Plus, you can have the rifle shipped directly to you!  Don't wait to apply.  Do it today!  The money you save will be your own! :)

I have actually thought about applying for one, but just started looking into it. Wondering how it would work when I transfer off island? It seems like it is not a business license that stays in one location but more like a drivers license that travels with you, correct? I definitely would not refurbish a prewar one, those could be battle scars! And I would look up all the info I could on it. Found some good stuff at that 7.62......net site. Can't remember the full name.

Went to a few store this weekend. Found some hex's on consignment at x-ring, $400. To high for me, but I did find a auction on gun broker for a wx-48. I guess it is a polish training rifle that is .22 Cal. Only at $70, looked pretty cool.

Last time I checked Aim shipping for a rifle was $70 to hawaii as well but that could be via UPS or Fedex, they may offer USPS for less. Buds is always $22 or $23 insured to Hawaii via UPS.

You might try calling AIM when ordering there.  I read something that they can change the UPS shipping to USPS, making shipping about $45 to Hawaii.  But you do have to suck it up and deal with a live human!!   :shake:

If they answer the phone.  I think I'll stick with Buds for most of my online purchases, since I've gotten great service whether it be from someone over the phone or via email during the period when they couldn't answer most of their calls due to sheer volume. Not to mention the awesome deal that is their shipping prices.  :shaka:

https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=187&idcategory=17

Flat rate shipping $6.95 when I started checkout process.
Parts:  $10.00

Interrupter, spring, and screw set.

I also see SOLD items on eBay, GunBroker, etc.  Timing is important on those, but might get one for a couple bucks.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, found liberty the other day just seeing if there's any local first. After taking his 53 apart it looks like its actually the mag spring not coming up far enough, its sitting just below the interrupter when unloaded instead of just above.
