The NRA is also, IMO, an alarmist BS mouthpiece in recent years that spouts a fair amount of nonsense de jour while it protects the 2nd amendment.
While I support the 2nd amendment and occasionally the NRA via Midway's round up I feel no need to be a current member. The way they speak is often not at all how I wish to be represented. I voice my opinion directly by writing to the legislators and committee members. I'm glad the NRA is there and doing what it does but I absolutely do not support their alarmist tactics in recent years. When that settles down I'll become a member again.
Shame on you if you think that means shame on me.
========================
I never expected such a response. However I still respect your opinion.
Let me say this though:
No person, place, or thing is perfect. Certainly, the NRA is not perfect.
But think about all the things that the NRA has given us, such as setting the standards for safety training, marksmanship training -both civilian and law enforcement, competitive shooting, RO training, range construction standards, technical training and information, and last but not least, vigilant political monitoring that
no single individual can perform.It is obvious to me that the good things outweigh any negative aspect. The NRA deserves to be supported wholeheartedly by anyone who believes that firearm ownership is the true key to individual liberty.
I think of it this way...
For the most part, my children are good kids who have grown to be productive members of society. In the past they have done and said some pretty stupid stuff that made my blood boil. But when they did bad things, I did not abandon them. I still fed and clothed them because in the grand scheme of things, I know they are a good thing.
And so it is with the NRA.
Yours Truly,
The Oldfart
NRA Endowment Member (and damn proud of it)
